Not really worth it to be honest, I won't be upgrading, I usually skip a few generations, my last Nvidia cards were a pair GTX 480's.
I'm torn between getting another 780Ti or selling what I have and going with SLI 970/980 or just waiting until GM200 is available.
ye trading 780 or ti for 980 isn't a jump, well they not meant to replace them really, just in part of price. Spets- u better wait till GM210 or whatever comes, big daddy maxwell will be even more tempting, heck those 980 970 are way too awesome, i wonder big maxwell on 20nm or 16... AWESOME
Was thinking about it but if you look at the benchmarks, an overclocked 980 is only about 20% faster than the 780ti. My 780ti is running more than a 20% overclock and so will probably beat the 980 in some/all tests.
Already ordered 970. Less noise, less heat and one more GB of vram while performance stays more or less the same.
No any upgrade until GMxx0, GVxx0 (Volta )...(NOT any G[letter name]xx4)! Because GM204 has the slower memory bandwidth and less nr transisator than GK110.
yep but in terms of performance it not that big of upgrade... anyway i think the 980 and 970 will be in Israel by beginning of october, till then we c.... My previous upgrade, from 680 to 780 was HUGE, cause oced 780 is 50+% faster than 770.
Think I'll wait a bit longer before deciding, I'm not playing anything demanding at the moment. I just see the Maxwell cards as a great deal, it makes my wallet itch I'll see what happens after Witcher3 is released.
Looking at the Anatech review, since Guru3D's doesn't show 1920x1080 performance unfortunately, the GTX 980 looks to offer a nice performance increase for me over my vanilla GTX 780: Metro: Last Light - 65.9 fps (780) to 84.4 fps (980) = 28% increase Company of Heroes 2 - 50.7 fps (780) to 68.4 fps (980) = 35% increase BioShock Infinite - 103.7 fps (780) to 130.4 fps (980) = 26% increase*** Battlefield 4 - 67.6 fps (780) to 89.8 fps (980) = 33% increase*** Crysis 3 - 79.6 fps (780) to 95.7 fps (980) = 20% increase*** Crysis: Warhead - 55.4 fps (780) to 63.7 fps (980) = 15% increase Total War: Rome II - 61.2 fps (780) to 89.0 fps (980) = 45% increase*** Thief (Min. Framerate) - 45.5 fps (780) to 63.4 fps (980) = 39% increase GRID 2 - 102.7 fps (780) to 141.1 fps (980) = 37% increase*** *** = Above 60 FPS anyway but those are averages so the minimum framerates are all going to be higher too. Don't know about anyone else but they are pretty nice performance increases IMO. Anyway, I've ordered an EVGA GTX 980 SC from Scan UK for delivery tomorrow morning and I will sell my old EVGA GTX 780 on (so if you're interested, send me a message and we can barter!).
it impressive vs stock 780, but u know 780 is a beast at oc. at least mine, it a bit better than 780TI. so it makes 980 less attractive, but this TDP and new features... YAMMY
Dragon Age Inquisition is out in November, isn't it? Will be interesting to see how that performs maxed out given it oipen-world in nature and using the Frostbite engine.
Well mine did not overclock very well on stock voltages so I've only got a very mild boost to the GPU and memory and I did not want to risk damaging the card by overvolting (that's something I will not do). My GTX 680s overclocked much better than my GTX 780 did. And don't forget that you can overclock the GTX 980 too.
Upgrading to the 980 from a 780, that's a nice boost in performance going by all the reviews and benchmark scores I've been reading, if I had a 780ti I probably wouldn't bother updating the card
Now is a good time to grab another 780 or Ti guys. Check out Ebay should be alot of GPU's up for sale this weekend.
You do realise that to use all of that ram that your probably gonna need to go tri sli or quad and even then you wont use all of it unless your using triple monitors? You could be wasting your money.
If anyone wants a second GTX 780 for SLI then I will be selling my stock EVGA model soon for around £225 + p&p, once I know my new card works, so if you're interested and live in the UK then please send me a message.
