    Always loved Doctor Who.

The new Season 8 from the 2005 Series is spectacular. Never saw anyone here talk about it and was just wondering if there are any other fans here?

Yeah loving it so far, amazing to think we are on actor 14 and still each one manages to bring something different to the roll.

(And before Whomdom kicks off i count Cushing's Who as one so deal with it, my canon flak jacket is ready) ;)

The massive long philosophy style speeches are beginning to grate on me now.

They can talk for minutes on end and it makes little sense.

Agreed, the scriptwriting is pretty bad.

My other gripe is the actors and locations they use - what's wrong with using actors from other countries or even setting the episode in another country?

It's not like they have to take much with them is it? A couple of cameras and a blue box and you're done.

I saw that episode with Vincent van gough and even though they did film it abroad they somehow made it look like a set, so I guess I'm saying their cinematography also sucks.

Yeah... I've noticed that too (every time I somehow ended up watching it).

episode for shows used to be around 20 or 30

    now not even 15.

cant get into a show if its only 2 months.

Capaldi has reinvigorated the role of The Doctor, for me at least.

The whole series was veering too much to the side of the kid audience.
To regain the imagination of adults they had to bring a more elusive side back to the eponymous role.
Matt Smith did a fine job as far as his remit went, a modern Doctor with a modern take of rationale, a concerning human/empathy for mankind. It did go too far though and started to become a bit of all out fun joke.

Capaldi's casting is a sign that things are going back towards the more elusive, mysterious side of The Doctor, for me.

I can't wait for this season to end and the next to begin as this season has been all about the new form and is as much about the character transition as the stories.

Next season should see a more established take with an audience familiarised with the Doctor's basic character. The stories won't have as much room for error.

I ain't no Whovian but that theme music alone gets me going every time!

2 months is around the same as a large budget US season is it not ?

GoT is a 10 weeks season, just over two months.

Yeah liked it when I was younger but recent series just dont do it for me..

Talking about old series watching some prime suspects atm..the 90's haircuts are a blast from the past..and some shocking jumpers...

I think the older Doctor whos had that retro, slightly dodgy sets etc which made it great..

haha didnt realise radagast was an old Dr.Who Sylvester McCoy

Well it took 5 episodes, but the last one was finally at least reasonably good, with a plot that wasn't total waffle.

It was a bank heist, but there was no rambling speeches until the very end at least.

    :(

Even I am now thinking it has went all a bit sh1t3.

It's sad really, they're concentrating ( the script writers/producers) far too much on retro-characteristics to somehow justify the new Doctor.

Just leave it and get on with Capaldi being the Doc, minus the love/emotional side of his companion !

They really are missing a trick. Centre the role around the main actor/Capaldi and let the new Doctor evolve to the actors interpretation. Instead of this fixation with the past season's idea of what the Doctor should be.

They really are wasting the chance of using an excellent actor.
I can't help but think now, when I watch it, that PC is restrained and acting a role he does not see as being natural and fitting but merely playing to script .

    I'm disappointed.
A chance ruined. PC should be a great, getting back to the original eccentric type older guy the Doctor was...instead they're still fixated with this Doctor - Assistant relationship p15h.
