    Greetings,

I'm looking for a new platform/cpu upgrade mostly for Games. I usually play various rts, mmo's rpgs, and a couple fps (i.e. starcraft 2, skyrim, totalwar, civilization, world of warcraft, crysis, console ports and maybe look at star citizen too). I plan to overclock like I did last time and look into watercooling.

My budget is just about anything under $3500 for total system if I can get a meaningful performance boost from it. I am Planning to get SLI 980 gtx and a 120hz 1440p monitor as well, and later try triple monitor.

I just can't find enough information to really decide which is my best option. I'm mostly stuck between 4790k z97 and its higher overclocking for singlethreaded performance, and the x99 5820k/5930k for pcie lanes, more cores, ddr4 and I think slightly higher ipc.

Go for the X99 thats a no Brainer although i would do some research on the motherboards and ram before you buy.

Thanks, I thought x99 would be the better choice but I wanted to be sure I wasn't spending more money for less gaming performance than cheaper options.

5820K with real H20 build would be your best bet.

    Is an i7 920 D0 @ 4.0 showing slowdowns in anything?
