Very bad score in AS SSD. The disk feels slow too

With my OCZ Vertex 2 feeling extra slow recently I thought I'd check if ACHI was still on and how the drive scored on AS SSD. The answers were that ACHI seems to be on but the drive does badly:

It is half full, but it's never felt this slow before even at 80% full. Apparently the lifespan is at 95%.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Try the latest version, you are using an old version. Thats some terrible numbers there. version 1.74xxx

Same figures in the latest version. I wonder what could be wrong.

How old is the SSD? You can try reseating all connectors for the SSD.

I did do a Windows Anytime Upgrade recently. I didn't notice the slow speed until after this so it could be related.

The SSD is probably between 3 and 4 years old.

Recalling that reminded me that on that day I had the drives disconnected and I think I re-connected two of them the other way round. I just changed this back and the score improved slightly, but its' still poor:

From what version of Windows to what upgrade?

You will probably have to reinstall or update the motherboard drivers.

Just from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional. I think the drivers are fine.

Oh I also doubled my RAM recently from 12GB to 24GB. I don't think that's related though.

I'm surprised your Vertex 2 still is running ;)
Mine died after about 2,5 years, and showed signs of weakening just a month before that. Depending on your budget, or will to get yourself a new SSD, I'd advise you to do so.

Tomorrow I will try it with another Motherboard. That should go some way towards determining what's wrong.

I'll also try a different SSD with the SATA controllers on my motherboard and see how it performs.

"buy a new one" isn't really on topic. I want to at least know why the old one is running so badly.

I'm not a SSD specialist, but depending on how many reads / writes you've done on it, there's always a chance that through use many sectors have degraded or broken down, and slowly the controller runs out of spare replacement cells to be written in / on. Unfortunately, those first and second generation OCZ drives did have a rather tarnished reputation regarding long time performance and reliability, iirc. I'm not sure on how to find that out besides running the matching OCZ tools from their website to see if it gives you any information on the drive's health.
But trying the ssd on another computer, and another ssd in yours is probably the easiest and best way to find out which piece of hardware is the problem. But, I expect you to see that it's the OCZ ssd rather than your computer. Also, check for another cable to make sure it hasn't been bent once to often.

X58 is Sata II so most you would see is 300 Read/Write realisticly you would see 270-240 ish

that being said your write speeds are terrible.

Do you have your Mobo in ACHI mode? I could be wrong but i think your alignment is on the drive is wrong 10k? if that right the much higher then the 4k the supposed to be.

Does that drive even support trim?

Not all X58 are sata II. I have Sata III on my board. But sadly my SSD is only sata II. But I still have it in my Sata III port.

I have Intel 320 120GB This is what I am getting.

I cant turn on ACHI. No matter what, I get a black screen even on a new 8.1 install. Still blows my 80gb raptor out of the water performance wise.

1st make sure youre running the latest firmware,

2nd install intel rst + latest chipset drivers.

    http://www.station-drivers.com/inde...k,01892ac9b16f1d2e8955383e783b89d3/no_html,1/

    and

    http://www.station-drivers.com/inde...k,c551f736030b96d3956369de9a6baca7/no_html,1/

After that make sure trim is enabled.

    fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify

Enter in cmd prompt. A value of 0 means its enabled.

Afterwards, delete some stuff, ie disk cleanup/ccleaner. Reboot and go into bios. Let it sit there for 30 mins to TRIM the empty space. If you have windows 8.1 you can use defrag to optimize(force trim) instead.

Dont use a 3rd party controller regardless if its sata 3. No 3rd party controller compares to native intel sata controllers. Change the ssd to intel ports than install ahci, you will get better performance.

That score is quite low, i got double that 300~ with a 160GB G3 ssd, which isnt fast as the newer 320 series..

Hmm, I never was aware that such third party controllers have such bad performance.

I had it on the sata II intel and it actually felt slower, never tested it though. Ill try doing a fresh install on intel ports with ACHI. If I turn on ACHI and then do the registry fix, I just get reboots and black screens.

Thanks mate. This is my first SSD so Im still learning.

First Test Sata III port IDE mode
    [IMG]
Second Test Sata III port ACHI
    [IMG]

Did not think there would be that much of a difference. WOW.....
I did notice quite a bit faster load on bootup and I already felt it was quite fast.
This is just my boot drive. I do wanna get 256gb for a game drive.
Put Watch Dogs, GTA4, BF4, BF3, NFS Shift( when modded loads so fracking slow)

Thanks for the advice Agent 01

Np man. Install those RST drivers from intel for even better performance. linked in a few posts above.

    A different drive...

For the Samsung 840 EVO (250GB) I get this with my Mobo on the ICH ports:

Compared to this in another PC (which has SATA 3):

Which firmware do I want to be installing, and not to sound dumb, but how do I install the linked drivers? They don't support right-click installation.
