My ram is not being used, period. I've yet to see a game use more than 1.5gb of ram on my 4gb system. Seriously, Metro Redux uses only about 650mb, while in task manager the rest of the ram is "cached". I remember BF3 using even less. Batman Arkham Origins used 1gb. Skyrim used 1.25gb. I think something's wrong. People say "a game only uses as much ram as it needs". Why are devs increasing memory requirements if memory usage isn't going anywhere?
Sounds about right, especially if you have a pagefile, the less RAM you have the less Windows will give to applications to help conserve. You can try disabling or shrinking your PF if you haven't already. I doubt you will see a difference in performance though. Unless you are talking about running those RAM cleaning programs. Yeah, don't run those.
You'd find if you stuck 8GB in the system, that everything would start using more RAM, Windows included If you want to see most of your current RAM being used, create a virtual machine with as much RAM as it will let you
During a fighting scene with at least 15 AI's. In Redux when you leave fullscreen the process is stalled but ram usage stays same
lol, just use MSI Afterburner and enable the RAM OSD, then you can monitor in real time during gaming
Do you see the plateau to the left of the graph? That marks when I stopped gaming. The ram usage is extremely minuscule. Can't help but wonder if I'm missing out on any performance. OSD's are one of my phobias, with my dual core and all.
Id say it's more likely to be the monitoring software with the problem than the game using under 200MB Try Afterburner and quit all those other monitors while you use it Afterburner OSD won't cause much if any impact on your dualcore, don't worry, 100% less than all those other programs you're using anyway
If your really unsure run hijackthis, download and install, see if there are any rootkits that you are unaware of taking up some of the systems resources. http://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/ One you have the .txt file from hijack this, copy and paste it into Hijack analyzer for analysis. http://www.hijackthis.de/
lol, well you only know once you know, we've all been there at some point Afterburner is the main tool the majority here use too, you'll learn to love it and possibly squeeze a bit extra from your GPU too if you're not OCing it already
I use to use Afterburner a lot with AMD. But I stopped using it since I can set my voltage and clocks higher in Inspector.
Your monitoring software probably was not incorrect. The OSD tells you your total RAM usage, not just what the game is using. Still, there is nothing wrong. Most games will have their minimum requirements for RAM at or around the same that a modern OS says you should have, aka 2-4gb. That doesn't mean every game will use that much. Only my modded Skyrim and Watchdogs use a lot of memory for myself.
You're not looking in the right place. If you want to know how much memory is being used look at the PF monitor in AB, or the Commit amount in Windows TM.
