google update chrome to version 37. and I reported to them that version 37 when in beta, that it had bad lag when resizing the windows but they didnt get the fix in. chrome dev version 38 does have the fix it.
So Google finally released a 64-bit client? The last I remember it was still a canary release. I remember trying it out once before. Even though it felt much snappier and smoother, it had too many issues for my liking and i stopped using it. But that was a while ago. .
Just checked to see what version I had and it was updating and I noticed a big difference in fonts. Not sure if I like it or not as I have only had the update for a few seconds literally.
Maybe it's a combo how we had things set don't know but not being an expert on font names there is definitely a difference.
Perhaps he was referring to the 64-bit version. I know that one introduced fonts changes. https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/?platform=win64
Font rendering used to suck in Chrome, now that issue is fixed. Still... I'd like more UI customisation options and smooth scrolling support. So for now it's still Firefox and IE for me.
It's got to be something to do with this, but it looks like it's only affecting certain fonts. This is a snip from one website I frequent - I've tried disabling DirectWrite, to no avail. I'll leave it for now, but it is annoying! The problem persists for both 32 and 64-bit, unfortunately.
chrome was using GDI which is a rendering that has been around sense the 80s internet explorer and firefox switch from GDI rendering a while back. and now chrome has switch to it. I dont like the looks of words ether has the words appear to be not as clear and sharp. sometimes makes me think my glasses are dirty but new website have problems with GDI rending," as the words would appear as if the ink was worn out". Neowin is example as they recently changed there website. and chrome 36 had problems displaying the fonts correctly. chrome 37 and dev versions now show the site correctly.
Now that I've used it a bit I like the change in font rendering, for myself it's clearer and brighter.
I just noticed that Chrome 64-bit installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\ - I thought this was an installation error and was about to do a complete reinstall, apparently it's intentional, however. https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=380177 Just a heads-up.
^I clearly have an issue with my font - I've fixed the problem. I tried disabling DirectWrite previously but I only refreshed the web pages and didn't close and re-open. I've tried it again and now the issue is resolved. I think I'll leave DW disabled for now.
