At the moment I boot of an OCZ VERTEX2 60GB, which is easily big enough and fast enough for most tasks. It's where Windows and all my programs live. It isn't big enough for some Photoshop work I want to do. My options are to add another SSD to use as a scratch disk, or add another SSD and put it in RAID 0 with the first. My motherboard has a RAID controller. Is it advisable to use this? A few years ago the controller chip had some speed problems, which may have since been resolved. When I switched to using the Intel controller, the SSD immediately performed much better. If I go the RAID 0 route, what's a good way to split my existing Windows installation across the two SSDs? Thanks
Wasting your time because the SATA III ports on that board are slower than the intel ports which are SATA II in other words your storage controller will be maxed out with just 1 SSD, so run them as single drives not raid.
If you buy a dedicated controller and do a RAID 0, you would have to either do a fresh install or ghost your existing install and drop it back onto the new partition. Just be sure you have backups as you double your exposure to a drive failure.
OR, since SSD prices are finally falling get a bigger SSD and clone your current drive over. That's what I would do in your situation.
