Microsoft is said to be focusing more on making the new Windows experience better for those using non-touch devices, with Windows 8 roundly criticized by mouse and keyboard users for being too touch-focused. Microsoft began to address these concerns with the Windows 8.1 update last year, and this will continue with Windows 9."
Yeah, a preview version is rumoured to be released then. Remember a preview version is different to a release candidate, and may not be representative of the final product. The preview version of Windows 8 actually looked really nice, it had proper Aero Glass and was actually tweaked and nicer than in Windows 7. For the final of course, they neutered it and now we have the plain snorefest.
Wonder if there is gonna be any improvement in games and general performance. I already got used to 8.1 so this one better be damn good , if i am to upgrade. Also they might lock dx12 behind win9 as well , just like they did with 11.2
General performance, maybe on lower specced machines similar to Windows 8. Games? Doubt it aside from DX12. Games are already bypassing most stuff and run at higher thread priorities. I don't think there will ever be a boost to games from a Windows upgrade again.
There's rumours of a single update button on Neowin which makes it easier to update vs. 8.0 > 8.1 and much quicker, I hope that's the case because the update process needs an overhaul pronto.
It's probably an evolution of the pilot program on Windows RT in which you could upgrade using windows update instead of the store.
I hope they have an applet in the control panel allowing us to customize the interface according to our preferences. It shouldn't be hard but then it's MS ...
I have skipped windos 8 completely but i'm probably going to get 9 pretty early on. Hate the high prices MS charges thoough..
I have been doing this exact thing with Start8 since windows 8 launch. Looks like MS did a copy paste job. I can make it function JUST like this, or just a classic Win7 superbar.
Don't expect any major improvements in performance. There's very little MS can do to improve performance. If they remove bloat, people complain. If they improve the UI, people complain. When the loudest voices just want "more of the same" you're kind of stuck. Personally, Windows9 is a no-go for me unless they add an option to disable the start menu during installation.
lets see what feature they get rid of now, its been like this since vista, first from xp to vista I didn't miss anything, then vista to seven I lost my loved dreamscenes.. then seven to 8 I lost aero glass effects...
And this how some people felt about the fact there was no start menu and metro ui. in 8 MS would of avioded that whole crap storm they started if then just put option in there to pick, but in MS fashion they for feed it and it back fired, after while anyway. I vaguely remember they trying to force feed some things to the console people and that blew up in there face and they backtracked in 24 hours. MS is there own worse enemy most the time.
Imo Win8.0 was "ok", although that hidden start button wasn't really well thought, now on win8.1 its perfect (+ right click extra features) and I really like metro the way it is. I rather see it in full window mode and have better control over it, then this new win9 way - all crammed. Also its drop down "view all installed files explorer" feature is very handy, dunno but I would be very annoyed to have this win7 start menu cascade icons look again.
