I liked the first one a lot. The second one was kind of...too much of the same thing, not that, that's a bad thing. Get the first one for sure. Heck I think the first one has a demo you can try.
I absolutely adore them, although they both play very differently. I personally preferred the first game, although you'll find the majority lean toward the second. Brilliant story in a more adult themed/darker world compared to most RPG's. I'd highly recommend them, and if visuals are your thing the second game still stands out as a gorgeous title to this day.
witcher 1 is more.. old school pc RPG and W2 is a bit console-y. Both good games tho for what they are.
It's different but I wouldn't describe it as 'console' in any way shape or form. In fact, it's one of the few titles released in recent years that is far removed from consoles.
No it wont, especially on a decent res of 1080P @OP First game will take a bit to really get into the game, just bear with it.
They are both great games. You will get a discount for The Witcher 3 from GOG as well if you have 1 or 2, you get a bigger discount if you have both.
ran @ 1080 for me just fine Unless you want to run it a max supersampling or something which is completely unnecessary. You seem to forget this is a 2011 game, the textures arent what we consider high res in 2014 for it to need a r9 or even a 7k series card to run. Those didnt even exist in 2011
If you're not using ubersampling you're not running it at max. You can't just make your own definitions up as to what "Max" settings mean, if you're not putting everything at the highest possible setting you're not running it at max. It's that simple. I can also guarantee that a 5850 can't "max" the game even discounting ubersampling, unless you find low frame rates acceptable.
Technicalities ~ jaggies arent even noticable, and to think on another thread I was called a graphics whore for not thinking a 2005 game engine doesnt quite cut in 2014
It has nothing to do with technicalities, you're making false statements. You cannot "max" the game on the hardware you're talking about, period. As for a 2005 game engine, what on earth are you talking about? The engine the first game used was a heavily modified Aurora, being the original Neverwinter Nights engine (A game from 2002). The Witcher 2 uses the RedEngine, which is in house and built from the ground up specifically for the game. Neither are from 2005.
lol chill out. "False Statements".. Judge Gfx sentenced me to life in prison.. ANYWAY NO UBER rest full ran perfectly, sure wouldnt vsync to 120 fps, unless not reaching stable 120fps is another lie i dared "imply" in the post above, also im deeply sorry my card broke and im waiting for 870 & 880 to decide, since apparently its a sin to dare post here without a functioning 500 euro card from the last year, maybe year and a half :/ So watch dogs.. 6GB or it wont run, amrite?
I dont plan on downloading them until I have the upgrade. I should get the parts on Monday then I'll spend next weekend putting her together.
W1: + Amazing atmosphere, the game feels totally fresh when you first fire it up; + PC Centric UI; + Interesting tactical combat system; + Good overall story with many interesting twists and turns; + Good characterization; + Looks very good considering the engine it's based on (BW Aurora); + Game length is just right; + Fun mini games. - Not the best English script (e.g., it's clear the game was translated from a different language); - The casual way it deals with romantic relationships & sex (it sometimes feels like the game was made by horny young men for the horny young men. ); - Loses some focus in the final act; - Loading screens everywhere. Addendum: Some people feel the slow first act is one of the game's negatives, but I personally love it. W2: + Improved script (e.g., English feels like it belongs in the game and no longer feels like the last minute addition, better writing overall); + Better overall voice acting (probably due to improved script); + Good characterization, even better than in W1; + Choices with very real consequences (e.g., there are two distinct versions of Act 2, based on the choices you made in Act 1); + Excellent visuals for 2011 and virtually no loading screens; + An intriguing and quite complex story that, in order to be truly appreciated, requires your attention; + A more mature approach to relationships & sex. - Lousy UI, especially coming from W1 (e.g., seems more suitable for consoles than PC); - Less tactical combat, much too focused on the use of Quen (one of Witcher sings) and evading (rolling); - The setting and atmosphere no longer feel as unique, probably due to the usage of a much more vivid color palette, in contrast to the duller palette used for the first game; - There is no longer any incentive to play the mini games, since the monetary rewards are so small; - The game is too short overall, Act 3 (final) in particular is underwhelming. In short, both are worth your time & money.
