as soon as the game devs start using ddr4 we all better look out, heard it here first folks.
    j/k
(I do believe that though especially real uber fast gear), bring on the games that take a haswell-e /skylake processor for a solid 60 /120fps, waw.

How much do they cost is the question.

2133Mhz seems a bit conservative on the speed side. I'll bet my 2133Mhz DDR3 modules are just as fast, if not faster.

I would have expected a bigger speed bump, coming from DDR3 tech. DDR3 will be hard to surpass in terms of raw speed. Leaves only the neglible voltage and thus temp decrease.

The way it looks now, it'll take at least 1 more year in order to justify the upgrade from DDR3 to DDR4.

Those first modules i believe are CL15 or something like that, so most ddr3 now is definitely better. BUT ddr4 is expected to hit at least 3.2, so this is like ddr3-1066 was at the beginning when ddr3 was expected to hit 1.6 max and many people bought expensive ddr3-1600.

If ddr4 is anything like ddr2-3 then it will take 2-3 years for performance to reach that of good ddr3

I will be interested in seeing benchmarks comparing DDR3 and DDR4. Last I checked RAM speed had little impact on gaming, which is why many sites don't bench new RAM anymore.

*sigh* why am I not surprised that so many people are still only looking at frequency? Not just here, but in general. Marios145 knows what's up.

For AMD, DDR4 will hugely help their APUs. For intel, I'm not sure it'll do them much good. What I don't get is why both companies don't focus on adding more channels. I feel like quad channel DDR1 will offer better overall performance than single-channel DDR4. I could be wrong - at the very least, it depends on the workload.

I have no idea on the actual price, but I heard the other day that for equivalent server hardware there is going to be a 20-30% price premium for DDR4 over what we're paying right now for DDR3. Who knows how this will translate for consumer DDR4.

DDR4 isn't going to bring a massive boost in memory frequency, but hopefully will be able to offer better timings at the same frequencies as DDR3. I have some DDR3 here that is good up to 2800MHz but this is of benefit in very few workloads due to the timings required. I guess other than that DDR4 is mostly going to be about reduced power.

It cost me just over $1000.00 USD for 64GB of Crucial DDR4 so I'm guessing ADATA will be similar.

Damn expensive.... gonna stick with ddr3 and devils canon until skylake E, maybe by then prices are more affordable.

Of course it's expensive, it's the latest generation hardware which will be used primarily in high end servers. DDR4 won't be mainstream for another 18mths-2yrs, by that time prices will have normalized.

Huh? Back in the DDR2 days, they were commonly 667mhz to 1333. DDR3 release, they still had speeds as low as 800mhz, but a DDR3 module vs DDR2 module at 800mhz, the newer one was quite a bit faster. Going to be same case for DDR4 vs 3. Another feature is lower voltage. 1.2v for that 2133 DDR4 module vs 1.5/1.6. DDR4 is already inherently faster.

Currently nothing in the consumer market that supports DDR4, and until then there wont be high speed kits.

ddr4 probably wont be worth upgrading to for another 1-2 years in its current state aside from efficiency its worse on everything else.

As for the guy above me not sure if i understand what hes saying is it because its lower voltage it will oc more? being lower voltage doesnt magically make it faster.

There will probably be a limit as to how far you can push the voltage before frying the IMC.

Yeah If I recall correctly that some users had problems when they upgraded from DDR2 to DDR3 memory. So there might be a problem when upgrading from DDR3 to DDR4.

DDR4-2133 is probably akin to DDR3-1066, we'll hopefully see much faster speeds once the boards and CPU's supporting DDR4 are much more commonplace. You have to remember DDR4-2133 is an official RAM speed, DDR3-2133 isn't (although should be standard as the latest CPU's love RAM at least this fast).

Very true. While in DDR3 the true speeds are 1333 and 1600mhz while the speeds beyond 1600 are OC speeds. I agree that 2133 should be an official DDR3 speed.
