Hello! My first topic, sorry if is in the wrong place.

I will buy a new PC, and i like to know what PSU is recommended for this specifications:

    Video Card: GIGABYTE R9 290 WINDFORCE OC 4GB 512BITS, GV-R929WF3-4GD

    CPU:INTEL CORE I5-4690 HASWELL, 3.5GHZ, 6MB, QUAD-CORE

    MOBO:ASUS B85M-E/BR, INTEL LGA 1150 CHIPSET INTEL B85

    SSD:PLEXTOR 64GB SATA III, PX-64G5LE

    HDD:1TB

I already done some search and some people recommended use a XFX 550W CORE EDITION PRO SERIES 80+Bronze.

I found it wierd, because in the R9 290 specifications is recommended at least one 600W PSU.What do you think?

NOTE: Sorry for my bad english, it's not my native language :frown: .

The XFX Core units are rebranded Seasonic units and are reliable. But you're correct, you'd preferably want a unit with at least 650W in your system. What options do you have available to you in Brazil?

I take it you don't plan to overclock? Since the i5-4690 and the B85 motherboards can't overclock. If you overclocked you would want a little more powerful PSU.

Actually looking at a PSU calculator:
    http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp
(choose the lite version, I linked to the parent page because it's netiquette).

I added in one SSD (you should definitely have on of those), one HDD, a few fans, a few USB devices etc, and it came out at 460 W, so technically you should be fine with the 550W.

That said, personally I'd go for at least a 600W myself. Having that little bit of extra headroom is a good thing for many reasons.

Dont skimp out on your psu, I learned that the hard way....well kind of an experiment of sorts but when my lady got my second card for my bday a couple months ago, I decided to see how my crappy 600w psu would handle it. Well it handled it.....for about 30 minutes until it literally popped and scared the living crap out of my lady and I haha. Needless to say, having a crappy power supply with "600" watts was clearly not enough. Dont skimp out on the psu!!!

The XFX is a MUCH better option. The CX600 is group regulated, and all of the CX units have awful coil whine. The XFX is Seasonic built, and of excellent quality. Go with that one.

I'm not planning to make an overclock on it. I already have a HDD 1TB and a few fans here, and some devices too :D, i don't know why but i forgot to put here :bang:

The XFX over the CX series unit. Different worlds.

Totally agree. Although at first glance they may appear similar, the XFX is much better. There is also the added advantage with the XFX that is it 650 W compared to the Corsair which is 600 W.

Oh thanks,I will buy the XFX 650W it's not much difference of price.

Just for curiosity, how much cost a XFX 650W in the place where you live?

I would say use a PSU calculator

    http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

Determine all the hardware in your rig, then factor in that 290

I would say a 1200watt, just too play it safe

Then figure out what brand you will run with, I would say I EVGA 1200watt

Just to give you the head room if you plan on adding a second card :)

1200w is easily twice what that system needs, complete waste. The 650w xfx will do just fine.

    Maybe I miscalculated :(

But those 290's are pretty beefy :nerd:

    Isn't it like $2,000 over there for a PS4?

So what your thoughts on the current two cards that I have as far the PSU that I have is concerned?

An what are your thoughts on a two (R9 290) card setup (CFX) as far as my current PSU is concerned?

    ***Specs on the left***

@Killerskul: Where did you get your GIGABYTE R9 290 WINDFORCE OC 4GB 512BITS, GV-R929WF3-4GDan how much did you pay for it?

I am currently eyeballing the same card as you for like $280 U.S.

Corsair have a few 850w models, from personal experience my AX850 was able to handle two overclocked\over volted 680 Lightnings but pulled just over 900w at the wall (while benching)... not recommended at all. For a high end multi gpu setup I'd go minimum of 1000w Pt\Gold rating.

850w should be fine for two mid range cards and have some headroom for over volted overclocking as long as it's a quality unit.
