Im replacing a 1tb wd black that has bad sectors. around 6 years old I think and makes strange rumbling noise. I was on newegg and seen this. never heard of it and no reviews. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA5AD1S72218
Hi dsbig, sorry to hear about your WD hard drive problem. Thus, have you done the Data Lifeguard Diagnostics test on the drive? If you are yet to perform the test, I strongly recommend you to do so as it might help to detect any errors on the drive itself. To find out more on the causes of the hard drive noise possibility, you may visit Western Digital knowledge base under Answer ID: 568 Hope it helps mate. Cheers.
Let's put it a simpler way... It would be like you, who is saying your drive is knackered, sending it somewhere, whereby it is 'refurbished' and then sold back to you. The warranty would be even harder to get back no doubt than a brand new drive. You also have no idea how old the drive actually is, although hard drives these days typically aren't SATA 2. I like the title, it seems apt: (the -1 part)
Why buy a random refurbished hard drive for $55 when you could buy a 1TB Western Digital or Seagate or something for roughly the same price, if not a couple bucks more?
Quick example: WD BLACK SERIES WD1003FZEX 1TB $27.00 difference plus an additional 4 years of warranty.
Also have to wonder if you're using it as your main hard drive, or just for data storage. Even the WD Green's/Blue's aren't too bad.
Failed drives that have been repaired and re-sold? Christ, what did they do, run chkdsk /r and bung a new label on them FFS!!
My Seagate 1TB is only $2 more.... Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB $54.99 vs $52.99 for that "refurb" drive....
They're fast too, mine does 190mb/sec average read with a low of 100 and a max of 230. My WD black is only half as fast.
