Maybe this has already been discussed (I hope not) but I've noticed that CUDA appears to no longer be enabled on my GTX 690 with the latest Nvidia Beta drivers. I use a program called IMTOO Video Converter to convert some of my .mkv files to other formats. It utilizes CUDA to increase conversion times dramatically. However, for some reason the CUDA function is disabled now and asks that I update my driver or upgrade to a CUDA enabled GPU. CUDA appears to be set to "All" in my Nvidia control panel so I'm confused.

Is this a known issue? I've noticed people are posting CUDA drivers on this sub-thread but I'm not sure if that's because others are experiencing this or if it's unrelated.

Nope, it is just the NVIDIA Encoder (NVENC) API that using CUDA, not the CUDA.

Sorry for saying the wrong API, it is NVCUVID.

So with CUDA being officially discontinued.. Does anyone have any recommendations on some solid video encoding software that will still utilize the GPU? Or does nothing use NVENC as of yet?

Nvidia officially discontinued the old CUDA Support for Video Encoding, therefore I modded my 340.52 beta again and added the old support. If you want to try it, here is the link ..

    Download: Nvidia R340.52 Cuda

So idoes that mean it's possible to mod cuda support into newer drivers? Or just that particular driver version? If I can, then my wife will be a happy camper.

Yes, there is a possibility. However, I have only tested it with one tool (AVC Video Encoder). I need more testers :)
If it works as planned, we can mod it so long until Nvidia pulls the final stroke on CUDA itself.

It works with ***** Total Media Converter Ultimate.

    I did a quick test with a 81.72MB video:

    CUDA On = 18s
    CUDA Off = 1m 32s

    Can't you just use opencl?

Nvidia has a bad performance and old version with OpenCL, so...

Well after they dropped cuda support, I guess that means that htpc owners should consider amd graphics over nvidia now...

But there are not, they dropped NVCUVID, not the CUDA.
As CUDA is using for many supercomputer, they will not just drop the CUDA support.

And, Nvidia is replacing NVCUVID with NVENC(hardware solution), which is much more faster and power save than the CUDA(software solution), and the NVCUVID is also depend on how many CUDA core you got, so it is much slower with a much weaker graphic.

Beside that, I think QuickSync is much better for HTPC owners, in term of encoding speed, Intel also want to support HEVC too.(even it is very expensive for the dev to support it now)

    Oh, thanks for the clarification.
Well even the best cpu with quick sync wouldn't beat an average mid-range card for 50 to 100 bucks, would it? It would be ideal if the two would work together, but I guess that's just too much to ask.

None 600+ users wont be able to use NVENC though, I can only use CUDA now thanks to Cyris. They should just stop updating CUDA but leave it in the drivers so none 600+ users can still use it.

Interesting. Well it's not that I'm interested in particullar, since an old passive 5770 is working in my htpc, with a dvb-c card for recording.

Does this driver support shadow play and msi recording 3.0.1 with nvec codec?

Of course, only CUDA Video Encoding has been added, everything else is unchanged.

    Easy installation:
    1. Download and extract the Driver
    2. Search "nv_disp.cat" in Display.Driver
    3. Follow the Video
    4. Now you can install all my modded drivers, without disabling driver signature enforcement.
