I currently have a GTX 580 which I've been satisfied with for the most part but I'm looking to the future (Watch Dogs, Witcher 3) and I know it won't cut it...I like gaming with at least 4X AA and most advanced graphics options enabled...I've been looking into upgrading to a GTX 780 but have a few questions I game at 1920 x 1200 and have no intention of getting a new monitor anytime soon...is the 780 overkill?...I wanted to get the MSI GTX 780 Lightning but it doesn't seem to be available anymore...after doing some research the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 GHz Edition seems like a great option along with the EVGA 780 Superclocked version...does the EVGA come with the new B1 revision?...I know the Gigabyte one does...how can I tell if a manufacturer has the new B1 revision? finally I have a feeling Watch Dogs will be added to a new Nvidia gaming bundle soon and am wondering if it's best to wait a few weeks before buying or is now the best bet?
780 / 780ti would be fine if you like 4xAA - there's no such thing as overkill when talking about GPUs - there will always be games you can't max out
A 780 @ 1200p is not overkill if you like everything maxed out. It'll do a grand job. I would imagine Watch Dogs will be in the bundle though yeah, seems like it would make sense. You might want to wait and find out.
I would go as far as saying that you'll need more than a single 780 at 1200p if you want to max things out. So in no way is a single 780 an overkill.
what's wrong with Gigabyte?...the Windforce cooler seems really nice and the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 GHz Edition gets excellent reviews
A lot of people have issues with them, although the cooler is really nice. I've personally never had a gigabyte product that actually worked properly.
Unstable out of the box, cooler having poor contact to GPU, and other problems. Just take a browse through this sub-forum and see the issues other have had with the GHz edition.
Yup, I've only owned EVGA cards since I started messing with PC's. I've never had 1 go and I overclock but keep cool, But that's why I keep buying EVGA. I'm sure there is others that are reliable but I don't mess with something that works.
the palit jetstreams are nice 780s. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Palit/GeForce_GTX_780_Super_JetStream/4.html
Also the Zotac 780 amp is very nice too and proceed very well and has a three fan vision cooler, check it out.
I've always been a Classy and Lightning fan but MSI missed the mark on the 780 for me. As already mentioned above, EVGA is also my suggestion. For 1200p I'd be running two cards, 780's or ti's or if I was going to stay with a single card I'd be waiting to see what the 800 series has to offer.
the early 800 series cards aren't going to be the high end ones...they will try and rebadge them like they did with the GTX 680 but they'll be gimped...the true 20nm enthusiast Maxwell cards won't arrive till 2015
if its the fastest card out and is faster than current high end, that makes it high end. just because something faster will be out much later does not make it mid range.
