Warhorse Studios Brings the Open World to the Old World with Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Nearly 18 months after its inception, independent, Czech, video game development house Warhorse Studios today announced details of its debut title, Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Coming to PC and next-gen consoles in 2015, the game is an open world, action-adventure, role-playing game featuring blockbuster production values, a nonlinear story and revolutionary, first-person melee combat.

Leveraging decades of combined experience in AAA game development, including titles in the Mafia, Crysis, ArmA and Operation Flashpoint franchises, the creative talent powering Warhorse Studios is well-versed in pushing the boundaries of RPG storytelling in sprawling, immersive environments. “The team’s ambition for Kingdom Come: Deliverance is growing this ever-maturing sandbox genre in a believable, real-world context and scope,” remarked studio Creative Director Dan Vávra. “To that end, we’re harnessing CryENGINE®3, nonlinear narrative, varied freedom in character progression, and a consequence-laden living world in ways that have never been possible until now.”

Rooted within the Holy Roman Empire during the late Middle Ages, Kingdom Come: Deliverance promises a first-person seat to a harsh and brutal power struggle for the throne. As players traverse expansive, strikingly detailed locales, they’ll grapple with a range of period-accurate fighting techniques, horseback combat, open-field sieges, and large-scale battles, all while developing relationships and a reputation that will inform the greater story. Kingdom Come: Deliverance promises no magic, high fantasy or mythical overtones - it draws its inspiration instead from historically authentic characters, themes, and warfare.

Further details for Kingdom Come: Deliverance will be released on January 20, 2014.

I'm no historian but according to wikipedia the HRE lasted until 1806 so I would say yes.

Kickstarter went live (not to directly finance the game itself, but to show to investors that there is enough interest), together with a new trailer showing some great ingame footage (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MefZfhxgpZE).

Quote:
A first-person, open world, realistic RPG that will take you to Medieval Europe in a time of great upheaval and strife. A humble, young blacksmith loses everything to war. As he tries to fulfill the dying wish of his father, Fate drags him into the thick of a conspiracy to save a kidnapped king and stop a bloody conflict. You will wander the world, fighting as a knight, lurking in the shadows as a rogue, or using the bard’s charm to persuade people to your cause. You will dive deep into a sweeping, epic, nonlinear story from Daniel Vávra, an award-winning designer from the Mafia series. Our unique, first-person combat system lets you wield sword or bow in both one-on-one skirmishes and large-scale battles. All of this - and more - brought to life beautifully with next-gen visuals delivered via Cryengine.

Summary

Planned platforms: PC, Xbox One*, PS4*, Mac, Linux
Release date: Q4, 2015 on PC, Mac and Linux
Approx. gameplay time: 30 hours (Act 1), 70+ hours (all 3 acts)

* Publishing on closed platforms is subject to approval by the platform holder. This can also influence release date there.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...me-deliverance

Awesome stuff, first person combat looks great and overall graphics are really good too for a team of 25 people (if only other studios would make such good use of the Cryengine).

Sure, it was primarily Germanic and had notable Emperors like Charlemagne and Barbarossa.

* Sorry they weren't late middle ages*

Like the other dude said though, lasted till 1806. I think it started in 800's so lasted quite a while.

mmm whats the rating? if not an 18 could be a bit of a fail...

p.s and yeah I think I agree with Mr.Bigtime not a big fan of first person, ok skyrim it worked..

and play Europa Universalis 4 and you will soon learn to love/hate the Holy Roman Empire (well if you play as Venice or say Bavaria for example).

That new in game trailer looks epic. I simply cannot understand not a single publisher was interested.

Oh well... off to Kickstarter to help.

if a publisher cant churn out games out every -12months and with tons of DLC they are no longer interested.... there is no Pay 2 win with this game either so no interest from publiishers

There is plenty enough 3rd person sh*t out there. It is freaking awesome that those of us who like a 1st person view, and less use of Magic B/S are finally getting an onfoot next gen medieval combat game. I don`t need to be viewing my character from the azzcam view. This is not PACMAN afterall.

I agree. Time for some decent 1st person sword combat again. If someone cant cope with that, you may train your skillz in Oblivion & Skyrim and be ready by the time this game comes out.

I stumbled across this on PC Gamer today and am highly interested to say the least. This puppy could be right up my ally.

New video about the character creation and a sweet looking clothing/armor system. Sorry it didn't seem to be embedding properly.

DEF gonna buy this on release day. Finally not some hack&slash or "You're a semigod, you need to save the world" magic fighter crap.

This game is sexy because its not over the top and has a learning curve it seems.
