Default Monolith's Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - 11-12-2013, 16:18 | posts: 4,428

Quote:
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is on its way to a game screen near you on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, we feel the upcoming game showcases some of the gameplay innovation potential now possible on next-generation consoles through its groundbreaking Nemesis System.

While many previous games set in Middle-earth have revolved around the major events or characters depicted in Tolkien's books, Shadow of Mordor offers a new chapter that fits comfortably between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Players control a lone ranger by the name of Talion as he journeys deep into the heart of Mordor in the days before it transforms into a blasted hellscape.

Along the way, developer Monolith is exploring a fascinating next-gen approach to enemies, encounters, and storytelling, one in which every player shapes their own story through the choices they make. The Nemesis System assures that every enemy you fight is a named foe, and if they survive their battle with you, they continue to grow, improve, and act in the world, even as you attempt to do the same with Talion. Our cover story recounts our extensive look at the game in action, from combat and leveling to story and setting.

Aww Monolith... it's sad to see what you've become.

No longer allowed to work on their own original IPs and ideas, forced to work on licensed projects for Warner Bros.
Not saying it won't be a good game, just... sad that the studio that brought us NOLF, FEAR, Shogo and Condemned... can't create original worlds and stories anymore.

But, with Craig and the bulk of the "old timers" of Lith gone... it's not even the same company anymore.

Looks quite good. Nothing unique though unfortunately. Assassins Creed and Batman AA with a LOTR theme.

Really sick of xray, nightvision and all the stuff too. Not needed.

Graphics look nice though.

The way you can gain control over different officers and make them assassins, spies, or spread terror etc. Is pretty unique in my opinion.

LithTech.

Monolith's in house property engine. They use it for every game they make.
They've updated it a lot for this game.
It's gone through a lot of changes from it's previous Jupiter EX build.

Just doesn't look like it was originally developed to be a LOTR game tbh.

Being stuck in Mordor (I'm guessing) sucks too. Let's hope it sells well and they open the world up like Batman AC did. Would love to see some of the lush areas of middle earth in this engine.

My first thought on watching that video was: "Assassin's Creed!". That's no bad thing though as I loved Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and consider it my favourite game of last year. Visually the game looks gorgeous with tons of detail, nice lighting and impressive character models. Definitely interested in this as I'm a big fan of Lord of the Rings.

LOTR just doesn't interest me. I wish they would make a new Condemned or Tron game. Not likely but I really wish they would make a new Blood game.
