Hello everyone.
I just wanted to hear an informed opinion of local gurus about what gpu would be appropriate and meaningful upgrade from my current gpu in the title.
Unfortunately I can't upgrade my cpu - PhenomII 955@3,6.
Could you recommend me a gpu which won't be limited much by that older cpu?
Budget range $200-250.
Thank you.

Your CPU shouldn't bottleneck any video cards within that price range, if so not by much anyway.

Check out the HD 7950 or GTX 760

For $200 it would be best to go with HD 7950, while they still have it on stock.

Another recommendation for the 7950, a lot of power for the price.

Do you have the specs for your power supply, just curious about power and age.

HD7870 or HD7950....both are amazing cards for their respective prices.

Thanks to all for their suggestions and sound advices.

Unfortunately I live in the EU (read EWWWW), which means I have to add at least +40% to those US prices... So for $200 I can get 7850 2gb, if I'm lucky..

7850 would be a huge upgrade over your 4870...>http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/513?vs=549
