Very impressive indeed.
I was pleasantly suprised with how easy it was to O.C. my 3960X. All I had to do was up to the voltage to 1.405mv and increase the multiplier to 48. Max temps I've seen while running prime were
74C on one core and the rest were in the high 60s. This is with an h100i and HT enabled.
Unfortunately though it seem that anything over 4.8GHz is doable but requires excessive voltage. For instance 4.9GHz requires a voltage of 1.470, which is a little bit much IMO. Also max temps increase to 84C on the hottest core during a prime run, which is to much for my liking. But I really can't complain. I'm very happy with a stable and cool 24/7 OC to 4.8GHz.

We should have a new thread called "Bragging Rights" While the high clocks are impressive, I feel compelled to ask, why? I'm not knocking high overclocking and bragging as I can see the fun in it,however at the end of the day,it's just bragging. Right? Wrong?

How is it bragging? He's just sharing his findings. Considering how rare it is to find a regular Ivy Bridge chip that will do clocks like that at that voltage, I'm sure he's as surprised as anyone. Which is why it's share worthy.

I know he is sharing what he can do with his CPU and PC configuration. I wish I could get those speeds. I also like to brag a bit. Nothing wrong with that at all. All I'm saying is,there's no real benefit for gaming etc. pushing a CPU that high. Sure, some games, apps etc. may run better with an overclocked CPU,but no need to go as high as 5ghz. I have my 4930K at 4.4ghz and even that is a bit more than the average person would need. Just my opinion.

This is an enthusiast site. It's not about what one needs, but rather what they want to achieve. It's a different philosophy.

A PC game enthusiast is different from a PC enthusiast. A PC enthusiast is like a car tuner. They're obsessed with the hardware and getting the most from it. You can be both of course, but they aren't the same.

I'm saying it serves no useful purpose as it relates to the better operation of a PC. If I offended anyone,I really am sorry. I read all posts regarding overclocking and I have fooled around doing it too. Think about it. If it isn't having bragging rights then why bother. Bragging rights is a good thing.

Those high OCs are worth it for decreasing CPU bottlenecks when aiming for 120Hz. OP I hope you're running some 1440p 120Hz monitor or something?

Either way that's a damn good CPU to hit that high, let alone with HT on. It took me 4 tries to find a 3930K that would hit 5GHz with HT off and with a reasonable amount of voltage..

I couldn't get my 4930K over 4.5ghz no matter what I tried. I wasn't all that comfortable running at 4.5ghz 24/7. I have it steady and solid at 4.4ghz. Not a huge overclock, but enough for gaming.
