as i remember i got involved mostly in Max payne and max payne 2: the fall of max payne, i believe it was a wonderful way of telling the story in noir style, good old memories..

HalfLife1 and both No One Lives Forever titles had great stories.

...and The Elder Scrolls Oblivion of course. The mother of Skyrim.

Metro, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Original F.E.A.R.

Some people mentioned Chaser, yes I think it was one of the best shooters very diverse and very long. The story is similar to Total Recall movie.

I had tears in my eyes in borderlands 2 on my first playthrough though admittedly i was enchanted by the game, Bioshock Infinite was incredible though, Booker Dewit and Elizabeth great gaming memories.

Original F.E.A.R for me was amazing. I had never seen particle effects like that game had with the sparks flying all over the place, safe to say it was a stressful time for my AMD Athlon 64 3000+ and Geforce 6800GT. But the story was awesome, and I never saw the ending coming WHAT A TWIST! My jaw hit the floor when it happened.

Also, BioShock Infinite that story was great, gameplay got a little redundant after the first five hours but the acting, script, story, set pieces, all got me hooked and the ending was truly probably one of the best endings I have EVER seen/witnessed in a game ever! So deep, and tackles a lot of issues most games shy away from. Levine will always be held in high regards for that.

I actually prefer BioShock 2's story over the first games.

But...

PREY - It's actually a very solid story.
The Darkness II - First game's story is great as well, but it's console only.

BulletStorm - I know I'm mostly alone, but I feel it's got a solid story once you get past the profanity and childish humor.

Can't agree more with you. The original Red Faction has a Total Recall vibe to it that would make Paul Verhoeven proud. I also like Halo's story very much. I really don't care about what anyone else thinks (and shouldn't have to "defend" myself about this anyway). I just enjoy the franchise's story. I also like Half-Life 2's, although it doesn't "connect" well with the original, but on its own it has a solid story going for it compared to many other shooters out there.

You're right, the story was pretty solid actually and kept me hooked on the game. I so much wanted a sequel when I finished it. ):

Yes. Despite the immature profanity, the player character of Grayson was a solid character who felt genuine guilt for the pains and hardships he had put his friends through.

It's very solid story telling masked by language that makes most believe they are playing a simple run and gun.

EA and Epic can sit and spin for canning People Can Fly's plans for a sequel. EA's statements that the game failed to meet sales expectations... when people from People Can Fly openly said that EA set those goals so high, there was no way they were going to meet them.
Then for Epic to can the project and make them develop a new Gears of War... meh.

I liked Halo's story, just not the gameplay. Particularly the endlessly repeating corridor sections.
