Default RivaTuner 2.0 LOWERED my 3DMark score! - 10-02-2002, 09:00 | posts: n/a

I just got 2 sticks of 256mb Nanya PC2700 DDR, when I first popped them in I got a 3Dmark score of 10,916. I tried to OC my CPU (ask Vyrticl and could get nothing to post. Then I thought I'd try RivaTuner 2.0 to see if I could break 11,000. (Running my CPU/Ram @ 133/33) It lowered down by 200pts.
Now, I know 3Dmark scores can vary by 200pts. all the time and it doesn't mean anything. But, shouldn't OCing your Vid-card with RivaTuner improve them? I ran it again, now down by 300. So I took RivaTuner off my system (man that was a bitch. You'd think they could make an uninstall app) and now everything was screwy. Now 3DMark would always run the test at 60hz refresh rate even though my monitor was set to 85hz (at 1024x768 and 3DMark was running tests at 85hz before RivaTuner) I finally got so fed up I reformatted my HD and did a fresh install on everything.
Finally I ran 3DMark again and got 10849. Being a dumbass, I tried RivaTuner AGAIN! Down 300 pts. Now what I'm wondering is, by messing around with trying to OC my CPU (trying to get my new Ram to run at a true 333 really) could I have somehow damaged them, because even after a reformat a clean install I cannot break back into the 10,900's (which I did more than once in the beg.) I got everything back a norm speed and everything is running as smoooth as can be, but could I have somehow damaged my new Ram a little by messing around with Riva and trying to post at 166/33? Sorry for the rambling, but I'm a little frustrated with RivaTuner? Any insights on poss. damaging my new Ram? Also is Nanya any good? I got it, because it was listed on Asus's website for A7V333 and Fry's had it on sale. Thanks for any input and reading this "book"!

Any RAM damage would have translated into glitchy performance, onscreen artifacts or crashes. From the looks of your scores, 10849 down from 10916, the deviation is probably due to the temperature of the room your P.C's in! Seriously man, that kind of performance decrease is to be expected when you run benchmarks after a reload, the score tends to be different every time you run 3D Mark. If you're really hell-bent on OC'ing your card maybe you should download coolbits and OC from within the Nvidia control panel.
