Default Need for Speed Rivals - 05-23-2013, 22:36 | posts: 4,516

NFS returns once again now using Frostbite 3...

Quote:
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – May 23, 2013 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA), today announced Need for Speed™ Rivals, an action/racing game created by an inspired new development team, using a powerful engine and delivering next-generation gameplay. Need for Speed Rivals is being developed by EA’s newest studio Ghost Games, who bring new thinking and innovation to the Need for Speed franchise in partnership with the expert racing team at Criterion Games. Built on the Frostbite™ 3 game engine, Need for Speed Rivals captures the adrenaline and intensity of the street’s ultimate rivalry between cops and racers, in a stunning open road environment. Need for Speed Rivals is coming to Xbox 360® game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC on November 19, 2013 and will also be released on Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PlayStation 4 later this year.

In Need for Speed Rivals, gamers play as either a cop or racer, where each side of the law has its own set of high stakes challenges, rewards and consequences. As a racer, the goal is to become infamous for taking risks behind the wheel and capturing your most intense escapes on video for the world to see. The more cops players evade, the more Speed Points they collect, enabling them to unlock new cars and items. Keep raising the stakes race after race to become an ever-more valuable target to the cops – but risk losing it all if busted. As a cop, players work together as part of a team in pursuit of racers, earning prominence and rising in the ranks of the Police Force with every bust. Achieving higher ranks unlocks new police only cars and more powerful pursuit tech.

Frostbite 3 is amazing. But... if physics by grip/handing won't be realistic yet then I'm sad.

They are in game scaled down from 2560.

Looking forward to this, the last 2 nfs games by criterion have been great and criterion + DICE = win to me.

It stoped being a "series" in the strict gaming world meaning a while ago. It's kinda like far cry now, just some known IP name to help boost sales for a rich publisher. I've lost count how many different devs have worked on the last few NFS games, i dont even remember who made the original in the first place any more.

Ha ha, spot-on definitions...

But this brings up the mystery which shall remain unresolved: How and why got boats floating on the water swapped with supercars riding on mostly solid surfaces? One of the deepest secrets of life...

You know this isn't actually in game, right ? this is In engine. Look at forza 4 and replays or the Vista stuff, all in engine but all better than the actual gameplay.

You guys may want to reign in your expectations before you get disappointed.

At first I thought the op was referring to other titles since the word rivals means competition!

Would be nice if the above screens were indeeed ingame and not cgi!

Style(frostbite 3) over substance game(plays same as the run),end of story, we haven't had a decent need for speed game since "underground 2",except the one i'm fond of which is need for speed hot pursuit. "shift" was close to be a good one, later becomes boring,it's time for a need for speed classic, and drop this visuals over gameplay concept!!!!

From what I've seen from E3 it looks pretty impressive.

Looks absolutely terrible just like HP and MW, at this point i want BlackBox back, The Run atleast had some decent driving in it, nevermind the fact that you had to BRAKE to take a corner and not use some dumbass drifting mechanic.

Also BlackBox games have wheel support and manual gears.

The last good Black Box NFS game was Underground 2 even the most wanted that directly preceded that title was meh.

Thats purely opinion on most wanted. Underground series sucked in my opinion. Driving was good in 2 but no cops and just feel blah quite quickly in my opinion.

It doesn't really matter what the last ''good'' Blackbox game was, point being is that they made the last good NFS game and now we're on the second developer since them and again we have another bad game, if all Ghost is going to do is follow in Criterions footsteps what's the point exactly?

Could have just not ****ed over Blackbox and let them do every other year instead of making an entirely new studio at least then we could have had some decent games instead of Burnout with the NFS badge.
