I'm stuck on the quest "First Lessons". I know I should be showing Tolfdir a ward spell but none of my spells are allowing me to move past this part. What ward spell is he looking for and where the heck can I find it. Been messing around with this for a couple weeks here and there as I just get pissed off and bored with it so I move onto a different quest.

Do you have a ward spell? If yes you have to hold it on, if not then you need to buy 1.

Are you referring to an actual scroll or a learned spell?

Tolfdir should give you the lesser ward spell you then need to go to magic and equip it, you then activate it to which he will fire a spell at you which then is deflected.

You can buy the spell from Faralda (the chick who makes you prove your ability to enter the college by casting a spell) for 30 gold.
