I really hope you didn't get that motherboard you linked as well. It's got no VRM heatsink. So you overclocking is going to be severely limited.

OP, before you change motherboard, make a full bootable backup of the OS drive.
Then if there are any issues we can have more than one attempt at getting it going without re-installing.

Its advisable to uninstall the motherboard chipset drivers and utilities before changing the motherboard.
But this is complicated by needing AHCI (and not Native drivers), uninstalling the drivers may make AHCI inactive.
See what happens, there are a few ways to sort it.

ps if you ordered the wrong motherboard, get the order changed.

You don't need 990FX at all, he just got the wrong 970-based motherboard. If he went with the GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 instead, he wouldn't have any issues.

I would advise the OP to return the board for this one. It comes with VRM heatsinks where as the D3 doesn't.

That motherboard is worse than the one you originally linked. But at least it comes with a heatsink on the VRMs.

Although it's a couple of years old, MSI is all over this chart. Is it relevant to this post? You decide.

I have this motherboard and it performs very well for me with no problems. I have my CPU oc'ed to 3.5GHz and memory oc'ed to 1333MHz and has been running stable since January of this year. Only thing I will be updating is my cpu and memory since my GFX card still performs very well even with the newer games. Good luck with your build and I hope it works for you.
