Cool What is your favorite fighting series of all time?? - 11-13-2012, 22:05 | posts: 2,922 | Location: Tampa Bay, FL

I'm sure most (if not all) of us here have played a fighting game in our time. What is your absolute favorite?? I like a few different series, but some of my favorites are King of Fighters, Mortal Kombat and some of the "Capcom versus" series like Marvel vs Capcom and Capcom vs SNK etc. I have always preferred the 2D fighters to the 3D ones!

So cast your vote, what is your fav?? Unfortunately I could only include 8 options, so if yours isn't on our list, tell us your favorite and why!

street fighter back in the day was awesome, also soul blade on ps1. street fighter 2 on Amiga was well ahead of its time, nothing came close. soul blade was wicked, much better than tekken. oh, international karate on c64 was the first proper fighting game I've ever played, if I don't count the karate game on Atari 2600 which was fun, but very primitive :p

btw, soul blade was so much better than any soul calibur game. you're missing a lot of good series from your list op, btw.

That one was definitely a classic!! I remember Nintendo screwed up with their "family" policy and the no blood thing. Everyone raved about MK on the Genesis because of the unedited blood code. Finally Nintendo got their head out of their a$$ and released the real deal in Mortal Kombat 2 for the SNES.

You forgot 2 very important ones Dsparil.....

Art of Fighting (Garou Mark of the Wolves)
Samurai Showdown series.

My favourites would have to be 2D Samurai Showdown 2(Neo Geo) and 3D Tekken(Playstation consoles) series.

On a side note King of the fighters and Fatal Fury series are 2 completely seperate franchises and play different to each other, Both on the Neo Geo.

OMF 2097 was the best fighting game for me, dont really like the others... If Battlegrounds would have been as Epic then I would say OMF, but now dont really have anything as I dont really like those games which are listed, problem with about every fighting game is that those get boring very fast.

My all time favourite of the genre would be hard to say, there are a lot of good titles out there. While I enjoy SF I find it a little over rated. The Blazblue series is fantastic, I'd probably rate that up there.

mortal kombat. i played #4 after school (years ago) against a mate almost daily. things got pretty heated at times. but it was a lot of fun.

Going back even further, I vaguely remember a game on SNES with captain america in it?? Perhaps it was even titled captain america?? but had some fun with my brothers with this one.

Would Double Dragon fall in this category? - showing my age now!

Its interesting to see everyones votes! Mortal Kombat seems to be jumping out in front, and I am a bit surprised to see Street Fighter with so few votes so far.

I'd have to disagree with you on this! While Fatal Fury was a different series, it plays very similar to KOF and is where many of the KOF characters got their start. Mai Shiranui, Terry and Andy Bogard, Joe Higashi etc etc. Also, I only had 8 spots on the list and couldn't include any more games lol

Mortal Kombat, the early games were amongst my favourite games to play when I was a kid. Second would be Tekken, had some great fun on PS1 with that.

Tekken, not because I think it is the best fighting game, but rather, I just had the best time playing it out of all of fighting game series because I got to play the crap out of late high school with friends.

No online lag, face to face trash talks with friends. No amount of social apps can help online gaming come close to just playing a game in one room like split screen or lan.

Fair enough mate, No worries
I find KOF alot more technical in the gameplay than Fatal Fury until Mark of the Wolves Garou came along but yeah some of the KOF did come from Fatal fury, Art of fighting and Many old skool SNK 80's arcade games like Ikari warriors and Athena.

Edit>> Nina from Tekken 2 and 3 was love at first sight. Brilliant set of 10+ combos and jiu-jitsu bonecrushing skills, quick and elusive with her counterstrikes, but also very powerful.
