MechWarrior Online has been in open beta testing for a week now. What better way to celebrate than with a new trailer? MechWarrior Online - Open Beta Trailer
The beta is pretty interesting, upgrades make the difference and are rewarding, and in general it's a good game worth trying, however: - I like MW3 mechanics more - especially parts related to running into objects - MW3 animation was much better - Many weapons are useless - Even if a weapon looks interesting, the map design almost always forces LRM -> short range lasers scenario - There's a lot of camping as the leading player (spotter) is likely to get owned with LRM's - There is a lot of grinding - and I don't like grind-or-pay-a-lot mechanics - and you have to pay a lot if you want to avoid grinding (good single mech can cost you even >$30) - some grinding mechanics make no sense, eg get 3 types of the same mech, grind the sh#t out of them in order to unlock traits for only 1 version you're going to play - you have to play a lot with trial uncostumizable mechs in order to afford the 1st mech - the rating system is kinda unrewarding (not much difference between playing well and just leaving the desk) - and there's no kickvote or idling penalty - even small lags make targeting weak spots a nightmare - it feels a bit like World of Tanks, just with harder to kill targets
sounds like WOT with different vehicles, I would have played this but already have to much invested in WOT.
