Rift is different league then GW2.
What Rift does not have is optimised engine, so when at big events, frames goes below 15 easily and i just hate it. From what i read in SL beta its even slower.

nah, rift has a lot more depth. GW2 is good if you're into pvp, everything else sucks compared to rift and wow.

Nah its a reset really and Planar Attunement wise you get the PA from all your old chars (that means if char A had 100 and your 3 alts had 80pts each, now all your chars will get 340pa for example) combined now so that's another step closer. Gear from the new 60level experts will be better than then ID relic set which seems to be good enough to last up to lvl ~57-58 so you're at a disadvantage only for the first half of the leveling process. Also today the pre SL patch 1.11 went live and all souls are already exactly as they are going to be in SL (besides the one new soul each class gets which is SL only) so most of the old specs are now gone which means completely new specs, so youre not at a disadvantage there as well. Personaly i hate it since it means i have to scrap all 6 raid specs im using.. but oh well
Beta wise i cant say anything other than that due to the NDA.

As for Beta keys far as i konw they are avail. through gaming & MMO sites (or SL preorder). Zam had a few, gamespot and MMOrpg.com as well.

I actually had one beta key but i gave it to a friend of mine just yest so.. bad luck there

If you change the spell/hit effects on enemies to just your own, this makes a big difference.

If you mean disable gfx effects for player spells, it does nothing. Perhaps for SLI user its usable.

Yep, love the art direction of the new areas!

Some of them look and feel like Tera inspired, which isn't a bad thing.

I nerdgasm'd so hard in the beta that I had to stop because I didn't want to spoil the official release, but since the NDA was lifted I did some basic vids if anyone would like to see

How is the performance nowadays? I played RIFT too at launch quit before 1.3 or 1.4 i think (before rogue got buffed) and i quite liked it but the EU Servers are almost dead

that's the reason me and some friends quit.

But really that screenshots are amazing but like i said hope the gamebryo engine got at least a bit optimized, it was a diashow back then with my i7 920 and GTX580 when there was some people at rift events.

It already runs better. Esp considering how small the old servers were compared to the current ones (the capacity of each server is almost double that of early 1.x)
The lag issues are mainly raid related since all the physics are handled servers side, and when on like.. reset days a ton of guilds run the same raids at the same hour on those congested servers (such as Icewatch or Faeblight) things start to get a bit lagy.

I cant really comment on the Beta because being used to being on a packed server im used to being in areas with loads of people and a little bit of extra lag because of that. The beta server is on US ground so even tho there is quite a bit of latency it runs pretty smooth. One thing i can say for sure tho is that Original rift server load would run with no issues at all now on current live ones.
