X-Fi series cards and Windows 8 -
10-16-2012, 21:53
So, I'd like to hear people's opinion whether or not things work okay in Windows 8 and possible solutions how to get things working. Creative PCI-E X-Fi cards have beta drivers and those work okay(?). Auzentech doesn't have anything for Forte. As far as I know there isn't any properly working drivers available for that - or is there a way to get around the annoyances (like control panel settings not sticking etc.)?

much as i'd prefer it not to be i'm thinking the 8yr old xfi chipset originally designed back in the days of XP and hardware audio may well be in its twilight years... :/

Well... I guess I could live with using the integrated realtek while waiting for drivers (or new soundblasters). It would be pain in the butt without the drivers the Forte sounds absolutely horrible (for whatever reason that is...).

I miss my deceased forte already... Anyway, what the hell is going on with auzentech, are they dead or something? Nobody's responding to my tickets and the latest post on their forum goes at least 15 weeks back...

It's not really officially released so I don't think it is so important that the drivers work yet.

Mine is working fine with the beta drivers on the creative website. At first there was an issue with my front two speakers not working, but I disabled and re-enabled the sound card and they work fine now.

Yes, the beta driver.
I only had one issue with my front two (left and right) speakers not working. I simply went into device manager and disabled and re-enabled the sound card and it has worked flawlessly since. The driver is perfect.

Interesting. Your experiance is contrary to most other feedback about that driver I've seen. To be fair, feedback on forums tend to be skewed towards the negative side so perhaps that's why.

It does tend to be negative. I would say give it a go, my experience has been good. There should be some final drivers out soon I expect.

lol, thanks, brah! I disabled/re-enabled the card in device manager and also I disabled the High Definition Audio ( it had 4 non-default instances, I don't know why; the onboard Realtek is disabled on BIOS ). Now it kept the settings... I hope it will stay like that.
I've too the PCI X-Fi Fatal1ty Platinum.

Yeah, that's probably best. I just remembered that you can boot from VHDs nowdays so I can do a test installation without even messing around with my partitioning.
EDIT: It seems the exact same drivers released almost a year ago but with an updated inf file. I had hoped Creative would finally release a native 64bit driver, not the same old WDM driver.
