Default Framelimiter for AMD cards? - 10-03-2012, 21:25 | posts: 271

Nv got such an option in their drivers. Is there a way to limit frames on AMD cards? I got some games that have over 3000fps. Forcing Vsync doesn't work for most of this games.

D3DOverrider can force v-sync, if you havn't tried it, its what i used to use when i had a 7970, worked in everything for me.

EDIT:

Radeonpro can also force v-sync.

MSI AB and Radeon Pro have a framerate limiter.

What games are you getting 3000fps?

Nvidia have a framerate limiter in drivers? When was that implemented?

You do know there is a force Vsync option in CCC you can even create your own game specific profiles too.

To limit fps, if the game does not already have one built in, I use DXTORY. Great app and works perfectly well. You do have to pay for it, but you can always use the 30 day trial.

Default MSI Afterburner - 10-04-2012, 00:37 | posts: 23 | Location: Montréal, Canada

While D3D Overrider is a gem of a program of its own, it doesn't limit the FPS further than syncing the FPS with the monitor (VSync)... in that sense, your monitor maximum refresh capabilities could be what's limiting the FPS

This year, MSI Afterburner included a FPS limiter in its statistic server tool:
Hit the big 'wrench' button and set the desired FPS.

I use this tool in GTA4 to limit its FPS to 30, which I find more comfortable than the constant FPS fluctuation (from 25 to 60) of this title...

EDIT: i was writing this post at the same time Pill Monster was replying the same thing.... aaah well + 1 to Pill M!

I don't understand, why you cap the games exactly at 60FPS? Don't you get the worst tearing you can get? Same with 59 or 61... I find much better at 58 or 62FPS. That's why I think Borderlands 2 have limit at 62FPS... On BF3 I get even better results at 65 and above.

Its also worth using the triple buffering in D3DOverrider as well, stops the frames halfing (or something like that)

I don't get your logic. If you want to get rid of the tearing lock the fps to your refresh rate. In most cases 60Hz. By enabling V-Sync with Triple buffering if possible.
With V-Sync it doesn't matter if you lock it at 62fps. It cant go higher then the monitor refresh rate anyway. Only lower.

But Triple buffering is a must if you don't want 60->30->60fps jumps.

I'm talking in case you only use a frame limit. No vsync, triple buffering etc.

Personally I use Vsync in all games except BF3.

I'm curious to know which games you are playing that require this? Some of them offer a console commands to control frame rates in game.

You know most if not all games can be capped in the config.ini files that 99.9% of them have.
