I know you hear all the ATI/AMD crossfire stories and that they have some great hardware but crappy drivers. I ran my 2 6970 till they both recently fried and they performed excellent, most of the time..
Since I had to rma both cards and not able to run my pc, I decided to go green and bought a MSI GTX 680 twin frozer 2gb card. All I can say is OMG! It's smaller, runs a lot cooler and quite and the graphics in BF3 have never looked better. Smooth as butter game play and my room is no longer a furnace.
It costs a bundle and I'm still trying to justify it, but you just can't beat the performance. I was leaning toward the evga 4gb version but prices are crazy and I game at 1920x1080....
That is all :-)

I`m on the fence on a couple 670 ftw 2 or 4gb, but the performance increase over 2 580`s isnt enough for me tbh. maybe an ssd and 2x8gb 2133 rams instead

SSD all the way. Made my system snappy. One of the best upgrades I've ever done. If both my 6970's hadn't gone sideways I would still be running them.

yeah single screen. I can max out any game at 1920x1080 60 minimum fps except metro2033. the 780 or whatever its going to be called is probably a better upgrade for me. and tbh the 16gb is overkill and the 2133mhz is too as I didnt notice any difference running my ram at 2133 vs 1600. theres plenty of bandwidth on SB at 1600mhz. had these 580`s since launch

6970's are far too power hungry, ive had to get a 1000W PSU to run them, nuts if you ask me. Dunno if a 680 vs a 7970 is better( price/performance wise ), both use a lot less power, of course the 680 is more powerful but also more expensive.
Good that youre happy with your purchase, thats all that matters at the end of the day. I might go for an ATI 8 series card whenever they appear( iff theyre not the stupid prices of the 7970's on release, if so ill go nvidia if theres a 3 screen card for that )

I'll add to this thread... My 7870 is out....560Ti is back in. Will be checking with a local shop on Saturday to see if they have a 660Ti in stock..... I've been unable to fold for too long and they don't seem interested in actually supporting the HD7K series in the Folding@Home software....so, back to "old faithful"...

Like I said they make some great hardware but the driver's or something is messed up. I even noticed using Battlelog is better....launching the game is better. Not one crash in some heavy gaming. I'd admit some of this has to do with new mobo and cpu but my old i7 920 setup was no slouch...My son now runs it with a 560 ti msi twin frozeer....no problems...

I upgraded from two 3GB GTX 580s to two 2GB GTX 680s.
The performance leap was phenomenal. Not to mention less power, less heat and less noise.
EDIT: I see you need an SSD. That's always a priority

3 580`s have more horsepower than 2 680`s. the performance leap I was looking at is 25% or so. definately faster but nothing earthshattering

Seems all thatīs AMD doing lately directs downhill. If they would have decent products I would buy from them since the Intel/Nvidia is a friggin cash monster and next tech around they will charge even more. Around 600 īs for a 680 with 4 Gbīs is insane.
And since everyone suspects them to not have released the "real Kepler" it even tastes worse.
But there is nothing to complain about nvīs cards, love them.

No Sh!t I spend good money and spent hours of time to OC, run dual monitor, play (tweaking) games on that hunk of sh!t hd5970. Just threw it on the table and popped in a gtx670 and life is good again. No studder in games and foobar is bit perfect thru hdmi like nothing else as I am typing this. Right out of the box! It is like everything is right with the world again. Good bye noisy fans, studdering piece of **** .... never again.

You should of went SLI than it would be an apples to apples instead of the AMD CF to single NV card and then talk as that important fact does not matter which seems to be the trend.
At the end of the day its working out well for you but lets just keep the facts straight.
