SNES has hundreds of games that are great and I like, mostly I rediscovered it with emulation 10 years ago.

Well i was born in USSR and raise in eastern europe so we didnt have official Nintendo products. Instead we had console called Dandy! I think it is equivalent to NES. I loved that thing!
Contra, TMNT, Alladin, Bomber Man, Duck Tales, Excitebike..List goes on and on! Wish i still had it! But i have emulator for those
Owned Sega after but didnt get into it, sold it, kept Dandy until my first PC My next console was PS3

Talk about nostalgia. I'd go with the playstation because that's the console I played the most and it had some really great games.
I'd also go with the genesis and the mastersystem since a lot of my youth was wasted playing sonic, alex the kid, wonder boy 3 (my eyes came close to bleeding with that one), mortal kombat and road rash along with many many others.
Damn you nostalgia.

Voted SNES over PS1 after thinking for about 10 minutes. Game selection was key, and thats one area where the Genesis/N64 struggled compared to the competition.

The 2600 counts as pre NES. Also, the Jaguar was simply awful, and the PC Engine/TBGfx 16 had simply awful market share.

I actually didn't forget anything. A poll is limited to eight options, so I chose the what I felt were the most likely choices from that era. The Dreamcast shouldn't even count considering it's a sixth gen system. If I included Dreamcast I would have had to include PS2, Xbox, Gamecube.
As I said, not enough poll options.

Speaking for the USA arnt you and not the rest of the world?,tbh i dont think your old enough to remember these machines(apart from Jaguar) first time around, also the Jaguar was very popular in Europe for 2 things.
1.It was the first claim to be 64bit processor in a console even though it was 2x32bit processors(codenamed Tom and Jerry fyi).
2.It was the only console at the time before ps1 that had a very good conversion of the original DooM,infact it was better than the PC version in some ways because it didnt have that horrible pixelation issue once the monsters came up close like the pc did, hence pre-3dfx era, this made the Jaguar a very attractive console for some, not to mention future prospects of the jaguar cd which was canned.
I remember the PC engine when it was around in 1987(costing around £150)these things sold by the bucketload through *Grey imports* long before the internet was around and it was more powerful than an Amiga, the game conversions were better than an Amiga and the Amiga was a very young computer back then costing £600,also the first console to have a CD-Rom way back in 1988 long before the CBM Amigas version or CD-rom-The A590 followed by the CD-32 i remember this first hand back in an era where the Arcade ruled and any conversion that replicated the arcade was very sought after, you wouldnt remember conversions of R-type,Vigilante and Space Harrier as you was too young but i can tell you they were arcade perfect on a home console long before the Neo-Geo was even around infact i dont even think you was even born then.
Awful market share in Japan also?I dont think so.
I could go on and on about facts *at the time of release* because i was there at the time long before you could go on the internet and hitup google,i could go on and on about Neo-Geo,Fm Towns Marty or Sharp X68000 or Supergun Jamma but quite frankly i cant be arsed tbh.
Its alright now talking about these machines as there old but remember at the time of release things were very different and many people forget this, think how good an 8800gtx was at time of release, nowadays not so,same with anything else.
Edit....you also forgot the 3D0 and the Philips CDI which was around 1993/4 just before playstaion 1, i also owned both of these,3D0 was good,CDI was not too good, technology was there but the games wasnt there apart from Arcade Perfect Dragons Lair and Mad Dog Macree.

Other than the NES I really enjoyed the Sega Genesis and Sega Saturn.
Also, @ WhiteLightning.....the Saturn had an analog controller before the N64. I think at first you could only get it if you bought Nights but I'm pretty sure they sold it by itself later. I still have two of them.

If it wasnt available before the game , the n64 was first.
according to wikipedia the game is released July 5, 1996, the n64 was launched 23 june 1996. close lol
apparently the first was in 1976 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analog_stick

Gotta go with the ol NES on this one. It birthed what has become some of my absolute favorite series in gaming, period. Castlevania got its start here, Mega Man, Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, Ninja Gaiden and more. The list just goes on and on. The SNES is a close second, but all of the things I love on the SNES started on the 8-bit system.

Is there a need to be so condescending in a thread like this? Seriously? I haven't forgotten a single console, I was simply LIMITED to EIGHT of them. I had to pick the best overall representation that I could. And just because I wasn't around for the original launch of some of these consoles doesn't mean I haven't done significant research on (most) of them. I mean I guess you got me with the whole "not thinking about other regions outside North America" bit, and I'm cool with the additional information you provided that I wouldn't have been inclined to research on my own, but come on now.
I don't even see how you being old enough to remember these "facts" from first hand knowledge somehow makes your opinion (which wasn't even substantially established) the "correct" one.

I understand you was limited to 8 choices within the pole,i didnt realise that as ive never done a poll.
My opinion is correct,go google/research what i said, its all off the top of my head also,i dont use google when going back to the games of old because i was there and i remember it how it was, simple,go hit wiki and see mate,i never post false information when it comes to retroware wether its my opinion or not.
