Smile is 660 ti a decent upgrade? - 09-22-2012, 23:42 | posts: 3

Hello. I have been using ati cards for several years. I'm looking to upgrade my ati 5850 to a new 660 ti, but wasn't sure if I'd see any real gain for the $299 price tage. Any help would be appreciated. Please don't roast me to bad lol as I'm new to the site.

I currently have an i3 530 o.c.ed to 3.3 ghz, with 16 gigs of ddr3 and the 5850. I play Wow, Starcraft 2, Dibalo 3, Tera, Kinghts of the old republic. Looking to get my frame rates up. Thanks in advance for the help

If you have the i3 530...then you will not see a gaming improvement...!

If I remember correctly, My old e8500 had better gaming performance...And it bottlenecked my HD 6870....

I just realized the 7850 1 gig model is down to $180 shipped. I wonder how that would compare to the 660 ti i.e. is it worth the extra $120 in terms of performance. Sorry not trying to argue, I'm just ignorant when it comes to invida products and I'm willing to admit that.

http://www.anandtech.com/
click bench top right, then click gpu 2012, then click the cards you want to compare. then click view comparison
like this
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/549?vs=647
^^^this bench is with a 2gb 7850, I would assume the 1 gb 7850 will fare much worse due to the lack of vram

It's slower, but you can get a 7950 for about the same price as the 660Ti and it's a better card imho.

Personally, I'd go for the 660Ti and call it a day.

I am loving the Galaxy 660 TI GC 3gb. Mine OCs to the same specs as the hardocp one with no problems at all. The card runs just as fast if not fastter then my buddies stock 670. I had a 4890 before this card and I am 100% happy leaving AMDs POS stuff to go back to a NV GPU. Here is a link to the one i got. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814162119
