$250+... ridiculous. AMD really aren't aiming for competitive prices. They're hoping big numbers sell. Most people don't know clock speed and number of cores don't mean squat.

I'm just hoping that the price reflects the actual performance in a good way. Time to upgrade my machine!

let's hope so.

Or, maybe AMD is trying to cover the cost of R&D, production, shipping, etc.....

these chip have to be real good for those prices, and not the 10-15% improvement over BD. Reviews should be out soon.

You guys are trying to gauge the price by the expected performance....but the performance makes little difference to the price. Even if they perform closer to the Athlon64 X2 5600....AMD still has to cover their expenses. Can't sell at a loss just because the performance sucks.

Could we please leave cost accounting 101 from this?

Actually the performance makes most if not all of the difference. People don´t give a crap about the expenses a company has to incur to make their products. People only care about the features, performance and price of the products a company offers. So if the performance is weak AMD will just have to sell their CPUs at a loss or leave them on the shelves gaining dust...

I just hope they make competitive CPUs this time because Intel really needs some competition although i have to agree with the other opinions saying that the CPUs seem expensive, just like when Bulldozer CPUs were released...

Zambezi needs a 250-300 MHz boost over Vishera to beat it.
4.5 GHz Vishera = 4.8 GHz Zambezi

Just an engineering sample. I expect retail with polished mobo bioses performance to be better.

I wont upgrade anyways. What I have now run anything I need optimaly. Ill wait till visheras go down in price in like a year or so.

I'm not so sure about that. Either way, I have a feeling that even with Piledrivers improvements, it can be matched with a nicely overclocked Bulldozer. I am guessing overall performance boost may be around 8% (from what i'm reading) with Piledriver. So given that, I can pick up an inexpensive Cooler Master Hyper 12 and overclock my 6100 to 4.3 ghz or higher. Thats the theory anyway

as much as i hate AMD I would like to see them actual release something that can compete with intel cpu's which would drive prices down.

If I had a dime for everytime I heard the "drive prices down" thing.
Why do you hate AMD?
Did you know that intel is in bed with the military industrial complex?......
