Tried this out a few days ago and it works a treat, well the IObit one which is very similar/identical.

It's not a Snake Oil piece of software unless you believe having lots of other software running while gaming won't make a difference to performance.

I find it very handy, and sure you could do it all manually, but why waste extra effort when a free application can do it for you when you start the game, then restore everything back to the way it was when you close the game.

Not that I noticed. Tweaks also don't look effective.

Looking at the way these programs work, it's possible that they might improve performance on old/slow systems, where every megabyte counts.

I can see how changing the menu delay, changing the shutdown timeouts, showing hidden files and folders etc can really boost game performance

In reality, on a properly set up system it should not make a difference. Funny this is a few tweaks that may or may not actually be beneficial are not listed in these programs. Such tweaks are:
  • the couple of entries under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile\Tasks\G ames
  • NTFSmemoryusage set to 2
  • PSGPNumThreads for Direct3D
  • setting superfetch from 3 to 2. Having free memory filled at any cost is stupid, since even when using programs memory utilisation changes, so having this enabled still results in lots of memory loads and unloads. Memory cacheing is still effective, based on previous use in a particular Windows session. This for me has long proven to be much more useful.
  • on x64 systems, having systempages and pagedpoolsize set to 4294967295.
Note that the systempages and pagedpoolsize above isn't a defined value as say 4294967000, it just tells Windows to be more generous with its's automatic settings.

Worse, despite the 3 antivirus scanners running all the time, I found more than 20 different troyans, a few keyloggers and bootkits!

For everyone between the more organised and the above hopeless one, this program might prove usefull.

Sounds like 75% of the computers that are brought to me to work on. I used to try to tell people what to do and how to do some simple common sense things to keep their computer running well, but after a couple years of 90% of them totally ignoring me I decided I'll just let them bring it back to me again...and again...and so on.

same here m8 but family wise it bugs the hell out of me because no matter how much i tell them and try to drill things in like always checking the custom install box when installing programs so you can uncheck the extra junk software and they dont listen and 1 even tells me i havnt fixed it right grrrr

i mean they dont even offer anything for the work just expect it done lol

Game Booster is all about not wasting CPU cycles (and disk access if you want to be anal about it)
And as you can see from my sig, I have well OC-ed, but rather old and budget dual core.

Yet I'd be hard pressed to name a single game where using GB made any difference whatsoever.
I still keep it around and fire it up now and then, just to be on the safe side

So yeah snake oil even for me with weak CPU, albeit quality-home-made snake oil , but not for everyone.
Noobs and background crapaware users may see boost.

I've been using Game Booster long in a laptop of mine,
where I don't have resources to spare if I want to game .
It works,
and it's very handy for ppl that doesn't know jack ab. windows servicres,
registry tweaks or whatever AND their PCs are on the border line, in terms
of resources

We ppl keep forgetting that most of the software is targeted to the mayority of
the market, which is not a forum full of gurus.

NTFS memory usage at 2 is worse, i tested 1-2 or 0 and found out 2 slows down raw disk speed. Not much but its there..

Btw what's this PSGPNumThreads?

Edit: ah ok nvm btw this setting isn't working fully.

I wouldn't call this snake oil. on really poorly configured and cheap PC's it should work great for the common user. All of those tweaks I used to do manually back in the days of slow computing.
