Default Scary Result of Global Warming - 09-20-2012, 17:13 | posts: 1,003 | Location: Tiny Town in USA

I just saw an article about how the Arctic ice has shrunk to an all-time low. It also describes how it can affect the world's weather. Not only will extreme weather get more extreme, but it will last longer. Droughts will be worse and last longer. Not only does this affect all of us, it affects nature as well. I may be around long enough to see it completely disappear. I don't know about you, but I am quite worried.

With the current economic crisis there is zero chance that any significant environmental legislation will pass.

It's a known fact that the eart goes through a cooling and warming cycle. Nothing to see here folks. Besides, after December 21 we wont have to worry about Global Warming.

True, it's easier for us. Not for those who we might help if we stop being ignorant.

One does not give a sh!t until gets directly affected.

Sure. After runaway global warming comes a global ice age. We're just accelerating the process.

Of course, I can't do anything about it. I can't make companies actually spend money to help. I'm still concerned, though.

The polar ice cap melting may not directly affect people, but the resulting weather does.

"Ignoramus", cleaver *clap clap*

Sh!t, you're talking about me as if you know me fella. Thing is, I get affected by serious matters everyday. After a while it all just wears a bit thin.

And here we are, freaking out about global warming instead of more important things that are happening a lot more faster and frequently then global warming because of all the hype it has gotten from the media and that money grubbing blood sucking douche bag "Al Gore" and his "get rich quick" taxation scheme.

Yes, global warming is a very real thing - but that's not to say that we are a big cause of it, we pale in comparison compared to the cycle of nature and the natural heating of the sun. Many factors to consider before we can blame ourselves for it's cause.

One can only hope. There is in no way the next species can possibly **** things up as much as we have.

Roll on baby, roll on.

^This, most defiantly this. I'm just trying to figure out why people get so hyped up about things they can not change. It's like those who live in the past and wish they could change certain aspects of it, but they know they can't.

Bugged if I know.

Like all things, there's the local optima, and the global optima.
Global optima is only reached when all local optima are abandoned.
But any agent looking for the local optima in ignorance of the global can get ahead of the rest.
And the world isn't altruistic enough for people to act for the good of everyone.

I love how people that argue against global warming forget that subject of debate is "Are people the cause of global warming" - and somehow they get on the "is there even global warming" discussion.

When data shows definitively that the earth atmospheric temperature is on the rise - regardless of what the underlying cause may be.

Even if it is a purely a natural process [and all we've emitted hasn't even mattered] we can still mandate changes to our behavior that would offset the natural process in order to preserve the environment in a state that we need it to be for humanity to prosper.

In a sense, the blame/cause is irrelevant - when the only thing we can do to influence temperatures is the same regardless of the initial cause (reduction if greenhouse gasses).

But yeah, nothing individuals can do.

Apparently the UK will end up with a climate very much like Madeira.

I can live with that.

Africa however will be mostly unliveable, none of us can live with that.

Its just a TAX making money machine, rich get richer and poor poorer.. Nothing new..

I think our Earth is fine, the poles weren't always covered with ice anyway, sometimes they shrink sometimes they expand, but i guess they needed to make another scene out of it.. As they say time to stir up that old soup again.

Yes Industrial revolution took a hit, but imo nothing shocking, the maximum damage has already been done few 50+ years ago, besides we will run out of fossil fuel soon enough, so that's that. ;P

I have no doubt another science conspiracy theory will popup soon, lol they popup like bees at every spring

Exactly, and that was before the "continental shift" and everything seemed to survive back then (so theory has it) so I can't see what the issue is here.

Let's see, Magnetic Pole shift is overdue (this one happening would solve alot of our energy problems...creating another set of problems ofc...no more Guru3d).
Arctic ice is melting, causing less sunlight/heat to be reflected back into space and so heating up atmosphere .
When warm enough, Siberian Tundra will make a methane fart so huge that cows all over the world will fall over in envy .
Sometime in the far future, the continents will crash again and form Pangea... Lets just hope, if we're still here then, that people have learned to tolerate eachother.

Happy days are coming.....
