Thinking of moving back to the green side -

After many years of buying only Nvidia I finally decided last upgrade to try AMD. I've gone through a few reference 7970s, Some Asus DirectCUs and some Saphire Toxics. Over all im pretty unimpressed as I also bought a triple screen setup and well Eyefinity does not work well for ME in Crossfire at all. My experience with GTX460s on triple screens was better tbh, let alone the 580s... That said the 7970s are stunning on a single screen with crossfire. So it comes to now where im mad at not being able to play games on triple screens, i'm missing my 3D (Dont hate on me) and my game of the year Borderlands 2 uses PHYSX...
I'm looking at probably dual/triple GTX 670s, i dont see the point of paying extra for a 680... Suppose I could consider 660ti's too but I kind of like having a powerfull card for when SLI doesn't work. Kind of hesitant about dropping down to 2gig ram from 3/6gig but the majority of games I play don't use that much anyway according to Afterburner, save a select few (Skyrim/MP3(Just use less AA i guess)).

How are the current drivers for Nvidia? More importantly hows SLI? Any major issues with any newer releases?

Do it, do it now. With Amd's drivers now in legacy mode, I can foresee that when a new generation of Gpu comes out or a new direct-x previous support will be dropped.
Of cause, all that is just speculation. Plus Geforce has better drivers and faster cards.

1st, my previous comment was for mr Shagula,
now this one is for you lol
well... whats there to be updated on these 4650 "M" version anyway? you would look better if you had 4870X2 before complaining about legacy drivers =\ besides, Mr Shagula owns 7970 is crossfire (today's top end), He may care less about 7970's driver support after 5 years, Assuming 4650s (that time's med-low end) were released in June, 2008.
I think he is trolling because he is considering 660ti / 670 SLI as same as 7970 crossfire... its a fail right there >_>

OK, my turn.
1st. didn't know that statement was for him.
This ones for you. Yes Amd have stated (on a driver level) that the 4xxx and lower have been optimized too their full potential, but future games will still require future optimizations.
2nd. Assuming he does stay with Amd, what if he ain't financially secure for years to come (we ain't all rich you know) and can't afford to upgrade and Amd drops driver support for that gen? Wouldn't he still want to get the most out of his gaming.

Oh I don't know? Maybe proper "Opengl" support.

I agree...
If you have multigpu card/s from the 4000 series then your pretty much stuffed for not having newer game profiles in the driver necessary for proper functioning crossfire support. Therefore it's planned obsoleteness.
Got a driver bug with your laptop mobile chip, or a bug with a new game? tough buy a new laptop or video card...
I wouldn't say either that 4000 series or lower has been "optimised" to their full potential, it's called being fobbed off. If anything performance and robustness since the 12.x series has only gotten worse.
There are still outstanding issues in many games and apps that now by the look of things won't ever be resolved.
I don't blame anyone deciding to jump ship as the green side still happen to support their cards and mobile chips all the way back to 2004 btw...
Whether they are relevant to the flavour of the month or not...
Not everyone needs or wants the latest and greatest, but for those that don't and are content with what they have the rug has again been pulled out from under you.
It happened before, and it will happen again under the excuse of improving the drivers when everyone knows nothing ever really changes.

If switch to Green and want Sli use at last a Sandy or Ivy CPU and all would be fine.

Seriously im not trolling this is why i asked for the thread to be deleted. I'm extremely tired from work and looking after my 2 kids and i accidentally posted in the wrong section (Im now drunk as tomorrow is my day off and well yeah... Drunk is the way to be as of now so forgive me lol)...
If i had a single monitor i'd be saying the 7970s are the best cards i've ever owned... They probably still are tbh....
Unfortunately i WANT to game on my triple screens at MAX detail and FPS... I don't mean to offend AMD users as i really did have an absolute blast with crossfire on a single screen... But i want to have triple screens with multiple cards with physx and (maybe) 3d once again.
Pretty much im forced to go back to nvidia. I hate them for PHYSX. Effects that could be run in game without the need for an nvidia GPU. I played through Batman AC with dual 7970s on my 3570k with NO nvidia card present and physx on high... I don't know why i'm trying to defend myself as not being a troll... I spent several thousand AUD to move to the other side and it hasn't worked out for me... I have no hate... It just hasn't worked as i wanted. Call me a troll if you will but i'm NOT. When the time comes that AMD again offers me what i feel i need ill buy again. I just hope next time it works out as it should. I wouldn't have invested so much if i didn't believe it would work out. Some people have unlimited budgets for hardware, i may have some high end stuff but i certainly dont poop money. So believe me when i say when i buy things i want/expect them to work. I've spent near 6 months with 7970s on triple screens that just don't work. I bought different 7970s when i suspected there might be a hardware issue with the ones i have. I bought a new CPU and Mobo and still no change. After all this $$$ cost im still not raging... That doesn't deserve any respect?
I dare you all to dive in the deep end and see how you fare.
Roses are red, my name is dave. This poem makes no sense, MICROWAVE
HATERS GONNA HATE.
PS. Now check the Nvidia forums, im not trolling... Im freaking serious...
PPS. Sorry for being an overtired dad and accidentally posting on the wrong forum... In my defence i asked for this thread to be deleted.

My current system is built on a 3570k which is clocked quite high... well as high as the ambient air temp here will allow

I hear you. I really do. I just want my PC games to play and work as reliably as my freaking console games do. IE. Install game and it works... Im sick of drivers and all that BS. Piracy isnt killing pc games. Its the people who make games and the people who make hardware and drivers not working together well enough to make the product work.
