Default Opinions about ocz vertex 3 240gb ssd - 09-15-2012, 11:19 | posts: 7

I found a very good offer for vertex 3 240gb at 125 euro.
Should I buy it?
I've read very good reviews about it but I'm a bit concerned about it's reliability. I've read that many people got blue screens and stability issues.

Yeah, 1-3 gen OCZ SSDs are the most unreliable of all major brands. IDK what situation is now, maybe newer firmware versions fixed most of the issues.

I have had nothing but good luck with my Agility III. I was a bit skeptical about switching over to SSD from my Raptor, but I wouldn't go back for anything. The OCZ new firmware addresses many of the "old" issues that these SSD's have had. I have a similar deal here in US on newegg...those SSD's are going for 130 USD. I am picking a couple up so I can store all data on SSD's now

I have some OCZ SSD in raid 0 for 10 months+ and never had a problem.
Of course I was aware of all the people saying bad things about OCZ SSD drives but its the internet and there will always be people with problems with everything.

The drives are so good I am going to sell all mechanical drives and go with only OCZ SSD drives.

I'm glad your OCZ SSDs are working fine. And it's true that eveyrone will be having problems with something.

But OCZ SSDs do have higher failure rates than any other, as had their memory. Threads in many forums also show that people are having more problems with OCZ SSDs.

Anyway, hopefully their current 4th gen and future SSDs will be more reliable. Vertex 4 is nothing less but impressive so far.

They have ironed out the issues now, many people didnt have a problem ever.
I avoided recommending the Vertex 3 for quite some time until they fixed the issues.
I have a Vertex 2, my brother and a friend have a Vertex 3, they have all worked flawlessly.

Op, be sure to update to the latest firmware before installing Windows.

Did you run SSDLife to see its projected life at any time near the end of its life?

thanks mufflore, I was more concerned getting as much data off it as soon as I could. At first it locked up while I was surfing the net, there was a flash on the monitor and all my icons dissapered off the screen then it locked. the computer rebooted but said no boot device. I rebooted again into the bios found the drive and booted again into windows, saved some more of my data and it did it again. I have since tried it on another pc with differant cables etc just to eliminate them,it usually boots but fails after 4 mins or so. its only two years old by the way no way should it be near the end of its life.
Not happy with OCZ they dont seem to care for there customers no way would I now reccomend one to anyone.

I'm very interested to see if the projected life can predict imminent failure in your case.
If you get a chance to get it going again on a machine with SSDLife 'already installed', can you quickly see how long it says is left please?

Get it from here, free version link is right at the bottom.

How much free space did you have on the drive generally?
Was it near full (few GB free) or lots of space?
