As the title states:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...oject-eternity

Quote:
We have wanted to go back to our roots and create an epic PC role-playing game adventure for years. But, it's been almost impossible to get funding through traditional methods for a game like this. The great thing about Kickstarter is that we can go directly to the people who love to play RPGs as much as we love to make them. Plus, we don’t have to make compromises with a publisher. We make the development decisions, we market the game, and we don't have to answer to anyone but you – our fans.
I'm tempted to put money into it, I've enjoyed every Obsidian game I've played. I love isometric RPG's. First time I've seen a company 'this' big on Kickstarter, it'll be interesting to watch.

Quote:
Project Eternity will take the central hero, memorable companions and the epic exploration of Baldur’s Gate, add in the fun, intense combat and dungeon diving of Icewind Dale, and tie it all together with the emotional writing and mature thematic exploration of Planescape: Torment.
I'm sold. Lets hope they can deliver it.

Holy $hit! (read with Unreal Tournament's commentator voice)

This thing looks mighty epic, though I'm not a fan of party based RPGs (hate to micromanage party stats, equipment, tactics, etc), but I can enjoy them if they're good (ie, DAO).

Already at $363,355 since it went live earlier today. I didn't expect it to go this quickly.

The only game of theirs I didn't care for was Alpha Protocol. After reading what they plan to do with this game, they will definitely get my money for this project.

As much as id love to pledge, its not the original members of Black Isle there just using there name.

Deep down inside though, my love for rpg's makes me want to pledge sooo bad. Least i have 30+ more days to decide.

Bioware must be like : What?! People still want these games? EA won't let us do it tho...

Then this is why Kickstarter rules. You skip the evil publishers.

For a DRM-free version on GOG, some one has made a vote/poll

http://www.gog.com/en/wishlist/games/project_eternity

The project is already at $975000+
With all the extra money they get, I hope for great modding support, coop singleplayer, lots of attention to detail and HQ art and obviously a bug-free gameplay experience considering no greedy publishers are on their asses.

I also like how they are making a franchise out of it. If they pull this off well, which I am sure they will, people will throw money even faster and for a higher budget PE2. I am thinking too much, too far

I hope other good big name developers also follow suits with their good ideas on Kickstarter.

Finally I can actually vote with my wallet.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan? I heard that Obsidian were in talks about making a game based on the world the series is in, but had problems with funding or something. If so I'm even more excited, I'm a huge fan of the books.

$1,664,312 as of right now. They might just break that 2mil mark. I really hope they get every penny their asking for. I'd donate more, but my wife would definitely tear me another one. AGAIN.
