Default AMD & AMD Switchable graphics driver update? - 09-12-2012, 08:03 | posts: 1

I have seen many posts lately about ways to update the drivers for my laptop but so far none address all of my issues at the same time. Here is my problem:
I have an HP dv7-4179nr with the following switchable graphics cards:
AMD M880G with ATI Radeon HD 4350(HP)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470(HP)

The drivers I currently have are the latest on the HP site and are, of course, well over 18 months old. This is now causing a "blue boxes" error with Guild Wars 2 and while the game graphics and performance are ok, they make the game unplayable. I have read in many places that the updated drivers fix this issue.
I have also read that in order to update the drivers to ones that will work I will need to be able to access the bios and use the switchable graphics option there. The problem is that this particular model HP laptop does not have the option in the Bios. All other models have had a bios update to fix this issue except for mine (of course!). I am able to assign the high performance video card using Catalyst control center, but it doesn't help if I can't update the drivers.
I attempted to use Leshcat's Intel/Amd driver but it wouldn't work and I ended up having to use system restore after trying.
I have two of these laptops for my sons and at this point they are going to become expensive paperweights if I can't do something to make their games function. I'm relatively computer savvy but if you have a solution you think will work, please leave me a way to contact you with questions!
On a side note, if there is indeed no way to update my drivers, is it possible to upgrade the video card or is there another solution? I just can't believe someone hasn't come up with something yet...
Thanks in advance!!

Hi bro
Well try one of my two full repack from marthand.
I have also two HP Laptop but with different gpus than your.

8.97 : (this first one may get you a better result than the second...)
http://www.mediafire.com/?gqyw5zon7e4aocy

9.00 :
http://www.mediafire.com/?ydwhj19u7do2jyv

both driver are compatible with Intel switchable graphic products.

Let me know if you will get sucessfull install as well as fine work with one of them.

Hi, I have the exact same problem with the blue glitches and texture problems (also low FPS).

I was wandering if those drivers are ok for me to try. I have a HP Pavilion dv6-3077la. With commutable GPU (Mobility Radeon 4250 / Mobility Radeon 5470)

Thanks!

Well these drivers come all from marthand and the additional intel media component come from an AMD Toshiba mobility driver and other complementary packages come from different mixed drivers. If one of my two repack works fine for you,i'm glad so.
Yes,8.97 driver is one of the best stable driver for certain specific laptop indeed.
Did you try latest official 9.0001-september 13 ?
Use the specific version without dot4 unless you need to install it.
But you won't get full AVIVO setting option.
If i will find one that will fit with this new driver i will make a new repack so.
Btw,i have another Intel media component to test that could be perhaps a little more recent but not sure...
I suggest you to stay on my 8.97 marthand's repack as it is more stable even for me on one of my two HP DV7-laptop.
Be patient i will try to remix a better driver as soon as possible.(last 9.001 with new Intel media component and full functional avivo asap)
Anyway ty for your feedback.
Have a nice day end
best regards

If you have Intel CPU then try the drivers at leshcatlabs.net. This thread is about AMD CPU + AMD GPU.

If no way in BIOS then probably not. Many of these laptops use the Intel GPU also even when using the AMD GPU. You can try to disable it in device manager. Don't know what affect it will have though.

Something is not right with your installation. Read his manual and FAQ and make sure you do a thorough cleaning.

You can also send him a problem ticket. He is very good at helping.

Would these drivers be a workaround to having to use Virtu MVP?

Reason I'm asking, is because i have the Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP5, which has the intel graphics built in, plus it has the thunderbolt slots which I'm using to drive an Apple Thunderbolt Display, and a 2010 iMac (used as second display)... I also have an AMD 7970 GPU, which is theoretically suppose to work with Virtu MVP (by automatically kicking in when it detects a specified Game running) however, on my system, it crashes instantly (I've read reports that Virtu MVP doesn't work for many others as well).

The only way I'm able to play games using my AMD 7970 is by manually connecting the minidisplay port from the 7970 to the 2010 iMac.

I can't play any games using Virtu MVP by having it plugged into the thunderbolt port on the Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP5--where as Virtu MVP is suppose to automatically kick in and use the 7970...

Yes, I tried countless variations, drivers, etc, virtu mvp just doesn't work for me. I don't even care about the main purpose of Virtu MVP, using the power of 2 graphic cards to improve performance. I just want my 7970 to automatically be used when running 3D games, without manually having to switch connections on the back of my PC.

Also tried, running thunderbolt display attached to thunderbolt port on mother board, and iMac 2010 plugged into mini display port on 7970, however, this works for the most part as far as gaming is involved... But programs like Photoshop CS6 3D/GPU performance enhancement don't work (grayed out)... Plus audio out crackles like crazy for music or video playback (different programs; and yes latest drivers).

I'm not even sure this is a question anymore... I think the best thing to do is try these out myself and report back...

Question I am confused? - 03-03-2013, 22:01 | posts: 1

The original poster was asking for updated drivers for switchable AMD Graphics with an AMD CPU but the only thing I see offered is Intel + AMD Switchable from leshcatlabs.

The only reason I was curious about the solution given is that I have a Toshiba Satellite A665D with A Phenom II X4 N970 with Radeon 4200 + Radeon 5650M Switchable and I can't find any updated drivers.

Anyone have a solution yet? What about the original poster?

I know this is an old thread but I figured I would give it a shot.

Thanks everyone.

The AMD 12.11 Beta 11 Thread by @dellon132 is the driver that I use for my switchable graphics 4250/5470 and it is working awesome. The only problem right now is some flash videos are slow with the 5400. but he is trying to fix it
