have you tried reseating your GPU, sometimes the pins dont touch the PCI slot because it was moved due to weight or by bumping the comp case.
btw can you post your entire spec.
perhaps this is a PSU issue.

when you say no signal in monitor, does that mean just no signal in monitor and you can see activity on harddisk ?
i mean can you tell that pc itself is working (loading windows, bios beeps and stuff) but you just cant see the display ?
If you have DVI connector handy, try it.

what's your PSU? is this a custom built PC or not? I'm thinking that the one you are currently using is a generic PSU and it's not supplying enough power to your rig...

okay, try one thing. Next time when this problem appears, take out monitor's connection wire from Pci-express gpu and try plugging it into your BUILTIN vga.
I think for some reason your motherboard is routing video signals to your builtin graphics card over your pci-express video card. if you see display in your builtin video card, try reseating you Pci-express graphics card AND goto your bios, make sure that video source is prioritized for your Pci-express video card.
you will have to browse a little in your bios to see that option, its always there.
=)
good luck!

umm.. that happend to me when i was installing my new 7970 lol
I had to reset my bios to fix this issue, may be this method is a little advanced for you.
you can try reseating your graphics card in pci-express slot. replug graphics card power (if it requires external power). check your bios and make sure first display adapter or something like that option has Pci-express selected.
this should fix your issue. (:
