I5 2500K overheating -

Hi guys,
Ive recently been having my CPU overheating. It does it randomly. I can have few hour session on BF3 and other times it would only last about 30 mins. It rockets to like 95 degree. But lets say Skyrim is always fine. Is there any good utility i can use to monitor temp during game/idle state.
I do have stock cooling fan so this might be a problem. Any other suggestions? It is about 8 months old.

If your overheating on the stock cooler it isn't installed right. I have even overclocked 2500K's with the stock cooler and no issues. Check to make sure all the push pins are down, and that it is making proper contact with the integrated heat spreader on your CPU.

+1 its not fitted correctly. The stock cooler is more than capable of cooling the CPU under full load, Intel wouldn't make it the stock cooler otherwise.

Sweet thanks for the advice. It looks like its fitted fine, as its been fine for about 6 months. However ive cleaned everything last night and seems like that fixed the problem! Duuh
Anyway might get new cooler anyway.

Try http://www.scan.co.uk/ I've heard they are among the best e-tailers in the UK.. no personal experience though cause I'm from USA.
This is the Hyper 212 a very popular/cost effective cooler http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coole...5-1156-1366-am

Scan, CCL and Ebuyer are the best e-tailers in the UK for general hardware though Scan & CCL both have cheaper next day delivery.

a little late to answer, glad you worked it out
I just replaced my stock i5-2500k cooler 2 days ago, all of a sudden temps went skyhigh 90-97 degrees when ingame The Secret world. Guess is cooling paste or some such went bad ?
Anyhow, replaced it with Hyper 612S single fan, and boy did that work wonders, i OC'ed straight away after replacing and confirming everything worked. Am now sitting with 3.8 Ghz in game and temps of 45-52 degrees and a barely audible cooler (running with fan speed resistor) in an open cabinet.
What struck me was..you said 8 months, i bought mine in December 2011, so seems 8 months is longevity for stock cooler if you've been unlucky hehe

yeah, scan are ok, so are ebuyer who I like to use, but that hyper is cheaper on scan so you might as well go for it. I have the CM hyper 212+ which is the model below the Evo and it's great, keeps everything nice and cool.
