Default What ****ing pisses me off about Graphics Cards. - 08-03-2012, 21:41 | posts: 377

Most of them seem to have the power coming from the top when because of the mobo the power cables have to come out from the side of the card. So you have to bend them round and it looks so crap, like why can't they just design the power coming from the side? I've bought some in the past that does that but most don't. So I have to spend my own time modding the board so I can have them coming from the side so it looks neat.

Just pisses me off.

Having the connectors on the back of the card would effectively add up to an inch of length to the card for case-compatibility purposes. Many smaller cases have hard drive bays up front on the bottom and if the card is too long, it won't fit.

but yeah, i hate the stacked ports.....

and also for the reference 670, what's worse is it's not only on the front of the card, it's also 3 inches towards the center, lol...

Yeah that.

I was once shocked to find out that my 8800GTX did not fit the 1 size below full tower case I was using for my secondary rig. However right now, I always look into this matter before purchasing any new case and I agree with the guy that they should look into the appearance of the card.

I also want to add my displeasure about reference-design video card style that NVIDIA-ATI are favoring. I want each company to make its own for stylish reasons, like it happens with mainboards. If this was the case we wouldn't have any problems like that.

its because most graphics cards at the moment are quite long. if you stuck the power connectors on the side, you'll need an extra inch or two out the end of the card for the routing of power cables (some power cables dont flex too well), which adds to the length of the card and restricts what cases you can use the card in.

by putting the power cables on top, manufacturers/AIBs are reducing the practical length of the card, which means it will fit into more cases, which means more people will buy their card overall.

Well like most said the high end cards are quite long and having the power connectors on the back would add more length to the card. Not all pc cases are designed with an extra long card in mind and i know quite a few people that don't like a full tower or large chassis because they are just huge(with exception for users that have sli ,tri -sli or quad sli and some exotic cooling in which the extra space comes in handy for easier installation of components, cable management and most importantly good airflow. With that said it does not bother me the current location of the power connectors with exception of the reference GTX 670 which has them right in the middle of the card just for that reason alone i have been put of upgrading to a reference GTX 670 which are the cheapest here,I can't afford to get a custom designed 670 as prices are quite silly here in Greece and the cheapest non reference 670 costs about 100euros more.
What i would like to see as a change in the gpu design is a fully covered gpu like the good old GTX 260 i had with all decals and stickers on top of the card where you can actually see them. For all those that have side windows on their case i think they would agree with me as it is not a pretty sight looking at the back of the pcb and having all stickers and designs under the card where you can't see them.

Maybe if you spent more time looking at your screen rather than the side of your PC case you wouldn't have this problem...

^^ This

Count yourself lucky, you have a house and a tap with running water. Don't worry about some cables that aren't 90 degrees around the corner of a pcb
