If there is something to apologizes for, then someone is at fault here.
You don't apologize for something you didn't do.

If they dont accept the new one, offer roast rabbit

Maybe we should be rid of the middleman, simply kill all "lesser" pets (not dogs) with loving owners.

It was obviously an honest mistake, just apologise and do whatever you can to help the situation. The dog should not be killed that is just ridiculous, eye for an eye and all that.
Also, why did they have a rabbit in the kitchen? Lol.

if that was my pet rabbit, the dog would've ended in a BOSHINTANG dish.
nothing my .45 semi-automatic gun can't handle, the dog's last meal would be based on bullets.

As John said it could have been a small child it got hold of, it's obviously not trained at all and the owners can't control it, the owner is also refusing to take responsibility for it's actions so shouldn't even be allowed to own the animal anyway.

Something happened.Terrible or not,it is done.
Op,i will try to say something to you,but feel free to ignore what i am about to say.
Try to calm yourself and try to "erase" what happened from your mind.
Now,starting from ground zero, imagine that someone ,all the sudden comes into your house and kiils your dog.
Honest mistake,this person went rampage,he hates dogs,so that's it.
More, you are a father, your baby plays in the kitchen,a stray dog comes in ,hurting/ killing your baby.
Now,please tell me how bad you want to revenge yourself,or how you want that the dog owner would take his position,so that more damage cab be avoided..or not.
I am saying all this because when something happens, one must try to put in the another person's shoes, and after that ,maybe the best solution can be offered for both parts.
I am saying this as a dog lover, and as a detail my brother owns many huskies, and one attacked my niece, biting her face.
My brother went for the kill, but after all he admited that it was his mistake, not dog's.
Now if you had the patince for reading all this, thank you and please offer a solution the the rabbit owner.

yeah but the thing is you would do it out of revenge, since you would not be there when it happend. that makes all the difference.
Personally ,if i would see you or anyone else hurt a animal in the middle of the street, you pretty much could be sure you would need to visit a dentist or doctor the same day.
i have no compassion for animal molestors.

So the owner of the rabbit isn't an animal lover too? Doesn't the rabbit have just as much value to its owner as the dog does to you? What was the result of the person coming over with the rabbit? Did you run and hide or something?

Huskies are known to be good around children. I have a husky, and although he isn't trained (kinda hard to train a Siberian husky), he just loves people and kids. I've had kids pulling his tail, his ears and everything and he was just fun and joy. Huskies are really people dogs. The love people who play with them. Of course there are different personalities like any other dogs, but i haven't seen a husky hurting someone.
About killing a rabbit that's a different situation. He saw food... Unfortunetly it was somebody's lovely pet, but it was food...
To the OP you should go apologize...
Edit :To all the above people who go about baby killing dogs : it's a HUSKY !!! Not a baby killing machine. Huskies were used for thousands of years as pillows and blankets for kids its in their instinct to protect kids. If mine hears a child crying he's like, let's go see whats up with that kid...
There was a case a few years ago, about a Stupid young couple who let their baby alone in the house with their husky, so when they returned they couldn't find the baby. The dog took the baby and he put him in some sort of a nest he made to take care of him. Thats what huskies do !!! They don't start baby killing sprees. In this case the STUPID couple wanted to actually put the dog down , because the dog could have hurt their baby. It was their fault , leaving the baby alone with they husky for hours but the dog was sentenced. Happy ending he was adopted by a kind man.

Unfortunate situation their Signex, i bet it must feel awful and the guilt must be painfull too.
I know you mentioned you were concerned about the news spreading around your area, but thats inevitable because the facts are that YOUR dog killed someone elses pet on THEIR property.
Im afraid though im of the opinion that if it was my pet your dog had killed, then your dog too would have been killed aswell at my hands, because quite frankly its disgusting to think that something as loved as a pet could meet such a cruel end in its own home.
Yes it was unintended, but it was somebodies fault - either yours or your Mothers for not controlling your dog.
If it was me id be doing EVERYTHING i could to comfort your neighbours, flowers, helping out or paying for anything they want in relation to a funeral and/or new pet.
Good luck sorting it out, your obviously deeply saddened and effected by this, as you should be.

signex your dog got out and killed someone's pet in their home. it's your responsibility. that doesn't make it a bad dog nor does it mean dogs are bad, it was just an accident.

In my life I've lost:
- 2 cats
- 2 geese
- 3 rabbits
- 4 dogs
- 4 hamsters
- 3 gold fishes
Still have one hamster right now
The rabbits were stolen. The others died because of age.
Losing pets is natural since they live shorter lifespan than us.
It hurts, hurts even more it they're gone not because of natural causes, but normal people will get over it.
What I don't understand is, why so many people love animals more than they love/respect other people.

Reading your response, you are clearly a close minded person. Your dog killed a rabiit because it decided to escape. You want to own a dog then you are responsible for whatever your dog does. It is nobody else's fault but yours. It doesn't matter if your friends' dogs did not get caught, you did and that is it.
You expect us to be sorry about your dog? Sorry, your dog was somewhere it shouldn't happen because it "accidently" ran away.
I would shoot it too, it doesn't make me a "monster". It was on my property and killed an animal that I own. It is not my fault but yours, accident or not. You are responsible of your dog's action... If you don't want to be, you don't deserve one. Hell, if my dog did the same, I would take blame because it went somewhere it shouldn't have been. If it killed something... I would get rid of it.
But enjoy being ignorant and close minded.

They shouldn't let owners who let their pets kill other people's pets, and refuse to take the blame, be owners. They should take away your dog and give it to someone who is actually capable of owning one.
I would also kill to protect.
That doesn't mean I don't love animals. On the contrary. It is because I love animals that I would kill to protect an animal which I consider a part of my family. I'd do the same to anyone threatening a human family member of mine.
