Default PhenomII 965BE + GTX 680 - 07-14-2012, 18:21 | posts: 5

Have PhenomII 965 with GTX460V2 right now. I saved a lot with it (paid $80 USD) but on Batman Arkham City my rates aren't that great - and I like my graphics too much to turn them down. Playing at:

1600x1080, Dx11 Normal, Physx Normal, all effects except motion blur on. 8x Nvidia AA. Rates about 32 average.

Definitely will stick with Nvidia as I like Physx a lot.

Will it cause a problem if I pair such a high level card with the very pedestrian 965 @ 3.4Ghz?

I am running a 500W OCZ psu right now; by my calculations it can handle it but I will be upgrading to 750w seasonic soon.

The only situation I'm having issues is in 64 player matches in Battlefield 3. Other than that everything else seems to run beautifully.

I've been very pleased with how well my 965 has been holding up and I think you will be too. Any bottlenecking is minimal, or at least unnoticeable, and you can always save up for a new CPU in the future like I am.

I get about 3% less in 3Dmark11 than people with faster CPUs but I gained almost twice the performance from my 5870 so I'm more than happy with the end result.

Good to know, that info will come in handy for others in the same boat. i.e average cpu/fast gpu...

I often wondered how a Phenom II would power a 680/7970 since it can't run dual GPU's very well.

Here's a screen cap:

I usually score about 100 points higher on the GPU score but it's close enough.

Yeah they do seem a bit low...also looks like CPU-z is having a spaz.

Here's one of mine w/ ram @1600mhz.

Yeah, the physics and combined scores are pretty pitiful. Everything is stock so that's something to keep in mind as well. Still, I can't help but laugh at how large the gap between my CPU and GPU is.

I have no idea why CPU-Z is freaking out. It still only lists my CPU as running at ~96MHz so I just skipped it in this screen cap.

Depends on which CPU I suppose.
My 965 at 3.84ghz and the GTX670 run sweetly for BF3, Metro 2033, Skyrim and ME 1/2/3. 3DMark 11 is 7440.
It also handled 8800GTX in SLI brilliantly.
But I do have an upgrade medium sized wall in front of me.

Yea, I had the 965 too before upgrading to current build a week or so ago. It was a grand CPU that lasted me for many years, and I'd still have it if I hadn't gotten an unexpected bonus at work. I also had a 5870 prior, and it was a delightful card too in combination with the CPU. Can't imagine that the CPU will be a problem. But the 680 is way overkill for 1680x1050.

The latest CPU-Z build doesn't read clocks correctly...
