Default ASUS BIOS Chip - 06-30-2012, 13:41 | posts: 555 | Location: UK

Hi All,

Ever since I updated my BIOS to 3203 and beyond I have had nothing but problems.

I have two options I can either:
1. Send my board back and be without for around 3-5 days or
2. Purchase a new BIOS chip with 0902 on and no downtime.

Both will cost me roughly the same as I have to pay for shipping to return the board £7.50 + VAT and a new chip costs £10 inc VAT.

My only concern is that on the 3203 BIOS it also updates the Intel ME Firmware... Is this ME firmware on the BIOS chip or stored elsewhere? As I don't want to purchase a new chip with 0902 to find it won't work due to the ME firmware.

I read that the ME firmware is stored on a locked part of the BIOS chip but I cannot find the post it was on.

Regards
Steve

I would choose the newbios chip route. It is very simply to change the chips .
Really don't know about Intel Me firmware.

New BIOS update wont fix it... ASUS screwed up on the 3xxx BIOS (read ASUS forums)

Since updating I now have:

1. Problems when cold booting somtimes takes 5 attempts to boot,
2. I can't OC past 4.4Ghz (I use to be able to hit 4.8Ghz)
3. CPU requires more voltage
4. I cannot put system into standby without it taking well over 4 minutes to come out (quicker to turn off and start up again)
5. General instability

Contacted ASUS who told me to send back to my retailer... Costs me as much to get a new chip as is it to ship back.

You cant flash back from 3xxx to 0xxx as the intel firmware is not compatible.

The intel ME firmware was updated when upgrading to 3xxx.

Ordered new chip and its installed! How nice it is to have a great overclock and a normal system!

To think 1 BIO's update gave me 400mhz less and system problems!

Where did you order your BIOS chip from? Glad to hear that the new chip fixed your problem.
