Hello it's me again. Does anybody have any tips for a first time Android user? I'm coming from Symbian S60 (Nokia 5800) and I have no idea how to use this

XDA and Rootzwiki are your best source of reference for anything related to rooting / flashing custom rom's

http://forum.xda-developers.com/

http://rootzwiki.com/index

Otherwise get used to the sense interface before you start messing around too much and don't freak out when your facebook / google+ friends all show up in your phone contacts

I would not recommend rooting/custom ROMs until the OP gets a hang of Android and believes that it is better for him/her to do it.

The best way to learn about your phone is to play with it and learn it yourself. One tip that I like to tell people regardless of the platform is to turn off your cellular data unless you want to use it, it often saves you a lot of battery.

IMO it's an awesome phone but yeah the menu is a bit lol. This is after I've owned the EVO3d for a while and gotten used to Android2.3 it was still pretty difficult navigating ICS

Yeah good point, i've been on Android so long now I just jump straight in. My GNEX was rooted before I even added my google account to it, lol.

And yeah good point with the data as well, wifi drains the battery a lot less, and if your in an area of poor reception data will drain the battery quickly as the phone will keep trying to get a better signal / data speed.

Also check out some of the widgets and give swype a try, it's pretty cool once you get used to it

It is a keyboard that lets you swipe across letters in order to compose words. It's my keyboard of choice. I swear by Swype and have it on all the Android phones in my house.

ahh... depends on what you wanna do ?
all major services have their own / ported / customized apps on android. google map, google voice, netflix, epinphrine (msn messanger), gtalk, whatsapp (for international txting over internet, read app's description), skype, xda forum app, newegg.com app, quadrant standard (for benchmark), zedge (for wallpaper\ringtones), speedtest for internet speed.
these are significant must-have apps for me.
it depends on ur usage. browse market

What about htc one x+ ?

I read and watched some reviews. Looks a decent phone. A nice alternative to s3 i think. And the body design is not bad i guess. 1.7ghz quad core.

The think is its UI is 60hz and if u watch the videos, it is smoother than s3 ui. It makes u feel like it has 2gb ram? Im telling this note2 was this kind of smooth.

Anyway, i may replace note1 of my wife htc. But not sure if another better phone is coming from htc.

are you comparing apples with apples though? stock s3 looks slower than stock note 2, but thats because stock note 2 runs 4.1, whereas stock s3 runs 4.0. jelly bean has project butter to make everything smoother.

if you compare s3 4.1 to note 2 4.1, both will be running similarly smooth.

htc one x+ runs 4.1 out of the box as well, so project butter helps it run smoother compared to a htc one x with 4.0 out of the box.

plus, OP sounds like he's already bought the device.
