Default Any thoughts on the HT's Omega Claro II? - 06-06-2012, 20:41 | posts: 17

I see it's on sale over at Newegg for $35 off until the end of the day. I was wondering if anyone had any personal experience with this card or have heard any negative/positive feedback outside of the limited reviews on newegg. Thanks!

The thing about the claro is,it good for those who looking for a sound card with muiti channel outputs. But I agree with Agent, it not worth it at that prices As you can get better deal with other cards. Xonar STX/ST is $169 at amazon as well as the X-FI HD PCi-E being 149 on amazon. Both would be better options then the HT omega II.

The problem is it doesn't have any op-amp sockets and it uses AD8066 for just it's Front L and R output and headphones out. If your looking at it for headphone usage only it wouldnt be worth it as both STX and X-FI HD PCI-E would be better choice for that, The STX if you need a In-graded Headphone amp, as both cards has op-amp sockets for swaping op-amps.

P12 is looking for a PCI sound card, you advise getting PCIe which do not fit the PCI slot. This ASUS PCI card is $70.00 more than the cards OP is asking about.
Looks to me like the HT Omega is a good buy for $150. But , I do not have any personal experience with this card, but do remember reading good reviews about HT Omega.

(edit) GenClaymore posted while I was typing my post. He gives good advise on sound cards.

If the op trust Refurbished or used then amazon has ST usb/Refurbished for $150-152.

Or the OP could just get a new Xonar ST, he doesn't have to go second hand.

If you use analog surround speakers, you will need the add on card for the Xonar ST. The price starts adding up,and the extra card takes up an extra slot. If I were you,I would try to find a deal on the Xonar Xense. You might be able to find one without the packaged PC 350 headphones. Unless of couse, you are looking to get new headphones. If that's the case, the Xonar bundle is a very good deal. Think about it.

The Xonar ST is a very good card but you require the H6 board for analog surround as was mentioned. The Claros seem to be rather hit or miss with audio fans for whatever reason, they are just not that well received. Keep researching until you find the card that suits your requirements the best.

I like my Claro just fine. It's the 1st generation card.
Their tech support is great. Quick replies.
When I blue screened playing BF3 and it pointed to audio, I emailed them and within hours they pointed me towards Claro 2 drivers.
Installed them and have been stable since.

As I said, hit or miss. Look through this place and you will see not very many people are using Claro's.
