I just bought one but cant figure out how to make the gain control work. Turning the gain knob seems to have no effect on mic volume. I'm using it with a ecm8000.

I think the Icicle had an issue where the "switch" to automatically engage the +48v phantom power doesn't always take. Try taking a reading with a multimeter and plugging another mic in?

I measure 46.5v on pins 2 and 3, and the phantom power led comes on when plugging in the mic, it's just the gain control isn't working for some reason.

I know the mic works so I think I'll just exchange the Icicle for something else, not sure what though.

Damn man, sorry. Blue makes some pretty solid stuff, idk what's up. I stick to plain old mixers and preamps into my line-in. There's several xlr-usb mini preamps out there, dunno much about them, think there was one called Mic Mate or something that a friend used and liked.

Any recommendations for a good preamp around $150 or less? It doesn't need to be usb.

I recently picked up an Art Tube MP v3, after going from a ProTools mbox rig, and a multitrack studio...I dont really need to record multiple sources anymore.

I dunno how much the one 12ax7 that is barely being worked actually affects the sound, but it works well enough. I'm using it with a 1/4 to RCA cable into the Titanium HD's line-in and overall sound quality is similar to my much more expensive equipment, though I record in an untreated room with sub-$200 mics, lol.
