Default Dead Island Riptide Announced - 06-05-2012, 20:58 | posts: 4,441

Quote:
Dead Island publisher Deep Silver has announced Dead Island Riptide, a new entry in the undead franchise. Right now details are virtually non-existent. Deep Silver has only announced that original Dead Island developer Techland is in "full development" on the title for consoles and PC.

Deep Silver stated that an "extensive reveal" of the title will take place later this summer. For now it seems like the publisher just didn't want to be left out of this week's E3 action.

Awesome!

Hopefully this is some new content that's worthy of Dead Island, and isn't anything like the last single player DLC they released.
Which was fecking terrible.

Interesting given that only a couple of weeks ago they were saying this

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news...ning-Right-Now

Dead Island was a great game, the DLCs for it were a meh and awful but if they can get a game like Dead Island but with a bit more refined, then great!

Well, they said DI2 wasn't happening... they didn't say they weren't making a new DLC for the first game.

The original was great (even though it had a lot of bugs). I would really like to see how they plan to improve it and also if it is set on the same island or not.

Is this a new DLC for the original game? The article seems to suggest it may be a totally new game. If it's a DLC for the original game then my hopes aren't as high given that Bloodbath Arena was passable but totally miss-able and Ryder Whites campaign was mostly awful.

Well, their update on their Facebook page made it sound like a DLC, but other stuff I've read today makes it sound like it's more.

Difficult to really tell what it is.

Nice, looking forward to it!

What I hated about the original was the fact that once the game has been completed there is no way to load or replay chapters you liked.

Sadly you have to start from the beginning, I hope you can manually replay stages in the new release.

The announcement of Dead Island Riptide at E3 was unusually terse, merely saying that such a game was being made for PC and consoles. How mysterious! Publisher Deep Silver has since realized it might need to show something of the game, and today released the FPS-RPG sequel's first screenshots and along with a few details. The five shots show our zombie-slaying heroes returning to pootle around in boats, mostly.

A new, yet-unrevealed playable character will join the gang after their supposed escape at the end of Dead Island goes a bit pear-shaped. A tropical storm hits to flood the island of Palanai so you'll be hopping in boats to get around. Expect dynamic weather, new zombie mutations, and unspecified "new communications features" for co-op.

The sequel also adds new "hub defense" missions, where you get to place traps, fences and turrets in an attempt to keep your flesh on your bones.

Dead Island Riptide is scheduled for release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2012. Hit the official site for more information. Developer Techland is also working on a "dark fantasy FPP hack'n'slash" codenamed Project Hell, which originally began life as a Dead Island experiment.

Loved the first game - one of the few titles to have truly visceral melee combat (Riddick and Zeno Clash being the others that spring to mind). Only played about 13 hours, though, before being distracted by the next shiny thing. Gotta get back to it...and I'll be keeping my eye on the sequel.

If you want another one, even if it isn't on PC, condemned offers the best melee combat of any game. At least the best feeling.

If it's s 'small' release it would probably be a DLC. If it were a bigger release it would be a separate game, but running off the same game engine etc, similar in respect to how there was GTA 3, GTA 3:Vice City, and GTA:San Andreas. They weren't called GTA 3, GTA 4, and GTA 5.

If this analogy is the case, then I hope it is more like GTA:SA compared to GTA 3, since GTA:SA was improved upon enough that they could have easily got away with calling it GTA 4 (meaning GTA 4 is GTA 5 etc...). Hope that makes sense!

I suggest this is the case, as I doubt that they'd add Directx 11/11.1 support to it. That said, there is no suggestion of a release date. If this game is released for the next gen Xbox, it probably would have Directx 11 (if not Directx 11.1) support.

Although it's suggested the next gen Xbox be running essentially Directx 11, it's more likely that it will be the equivalent of Directx 11.1. Directx 11.1 adds too much performance for such a small cost for them to not want it in the next gen hardware.

Guess they are trying to repeat what the trailer for the first Dead Island did. Only now we know already it will be nothing like it^^

But really, if you are looking for a more emotional or story based zombie game, play Telltales Walking Dead adventures.

Deep Silver has issued an official apology in response to criticisms over the limbless titted zombie corpse statue...

Quote:
We deeply apologize for any offense caused by the Dead Island Riptide "Zombie Bait Edition", the collector's edition announced for Europe and Australia. Like many gaming companies, Deep Silver has many offices in different countries, which is why sometimes different versions of Collector's Editions come into being for North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.

For the limited run of the Zombie Bait Edition for Europe and Australia, a decision was made to include a gruesome statue of a zombie torso, which was cut up like many of our fans had done to the undead enemies in the original Dead Island.

We sincerely regret this choice. We are collecting feedback continuously from the Dead Island community, as well as the international gaming community at large, for ongoing internal meetings with Deep Silver's entire international team today. For now, we want to reiterate to the community, fans and industry how deeply sorry we are, and that we are committed to making sure this will never happen again.
Awww no boobies?

First game suffered from serious lack of enemy numbers (not types, I'm talking about sheer number of zombies) to be played with anyone, along with general lack of polish so here is cautious hoping that they get it right this time.

Aside from the human enemies you could encounter there were only something like four, maybe five different zombies no?

Normal (Different models and behaviors though.)
Thug (Some few different models.)
That fat sewer thing
That armored tanking thing (Ram?)
Butcher (Very rare, only used towards the end of the game I believe.)

I'm probably missing one or two.
