Feature highlights of the AMD Catalyst™ feature preview driver for the Windows® 8 Release Preview
Featuring support for the new WDDM 1.2 driver model, this new driver enables customers to utilize the model’s features as applications are updated to leverage them. These features include:
  • Support for the AMD Radeon™ HD 7900 Series, AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series, and the AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series.
  • Native Stereo 3D support: Windows 8 natively supports stereoscopic 3D gaming and videos via compatible applications. Middleware applications will not be required for such apps.
  • Unified Video API: Video playback has been integrated into the DirectX® 11 API, enabling simultaneous video and gaming content. Transcoding performance may also be improved for supporting applications.
  • Optimized screen rotation for rotation-aware devices.
  • Improved sleep/resume performance.
  • Optimized GPU power consumption.
    Support for AMD Features:
  • AMD Eyefinity
  • OpenCL™
  • OpenGL
  • UVD
  • AMD Dual Graphics/AMD CrossFire™ Technology
  • AMD Overdrive™
  • AMD Catalyst Control Center/Vision Engine Control Center

Known issues found in the AMD Catalyst feature preview for Windows 8 (these issues will be addressed in the AMD production release for Windows 8).
  • AMD Radeon HD 7900, AMD Radeon HD 7800, and the AMD Radeon HD 7700 performance in DirectX 9 applications may be slower under Windows 8 vs. Windows 7.
  • AMD CrossFireX configurations using the AMD Radeon HD 7900, AMD Radeon HD 7800, and the AMD Radeon HD 7700 in DirectX 9 and DirectX 11 applications may be slower under Windows 8 vs. Windows 7.
  • AMD CrossFireX configurations using the AMD Radeon HD 7900, AMD Radeon HD 7800, and the AMD Radeon HD 7700 in OpenCL accelerated applications may cause a BSOD or system hang.
  • Blacklight Retribution (DirectX11 mode) played with a CrossFire configuration may result in a system crash when launching the application (32-bit OS only).
  • Video corruption can be seen when playing back movie trailers with Metro video player.

yeah, strange.

there's a preinstalled one:

but, when i choose to manual install the inf-file (driver) in the device manager, it ends up with an error

"Error during installtion of the driver software

Driver software has been found, but the installation enden in an error

Ati radeon hd5800 series

the choosen driver does not work with this windows version" (translated by me, lol)

screenshot:

anyway, i want to overclock to play bf3 right ... and that's not possible with the preinstalled ones

gotta wait for amd...or a nice user ...

So for someone who has an old 4850HD, what does one do? I'm new to Windows 8 and wanted to get used to it but it appears CCC doesn't support my card for this OS?

Is there anything I can do or is that basically it? Unsupported forever? No CCC and no forced AA/AF for me? lol

those are WDDM 1.2 features.... it's not a fancy trick done by AMD or taking a feature hostage for only win8

Thanks

I have not had time to install W8, just burn the ISO image.
The question is, can install both versions W7 & W8 together...?

A greeting.

With these drivers I get a 1 in desktop graphics and an 8.2 in gaming graphics. I've tried re-installing the driver but I get the same result. When running win 7 they were both capped at 7.9.

Think this could be a driver problem, or did I mess up when I was installing windows?

Yes, I get the same thing, I am unable to install these drivers. Mobility 4200/ 6300M switchable graphics. However, it still works with the older CP drivers so I am using them for the time being.

I have your same problem, it appears that 7970 will not work and windows8 never, fortunately they were born to windows8.
