Default New mobo - 05-20-2012, 10:47 | posts: 82 | Location: Dorset

A while ago my mobo went on me and I had to replace it. When I did my installation of Windows didn't work with the new mobo and I had to reinstall it and everything else; it did give me the nudge I needed at the time to swap from Vista to & however.

I'd like to replace my mobo along with my cpu and RAM at some point but the thought of having to reinstall everything all over again is really putting me off. Is there some way to gaurantee that this won't happen?

I am hoping if I get a mobo by the same company, it'll work once it is slotted in, or will a overhaul of cpu, ram and mobo be too much?

Usually it's not necessary to reinstall everything. Just first remove old chipset/audio/LAN drivers and it should work.

You may have had an issue with the IDE/AHCI settings in bios. Most new mobos default to AHCI while older boards were usually set to IDE and changing the setting after Windows installation will cause the system to fail to boot (at least it will if you don't make a few changes in the registry).

I usually recommend reinstalling windows with a major upgrade like that, but if you want to keep the installation try to uninstall all of the drivers that Law mentioned before shutting down to change the hardware.
